Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat lauded on Tuesday security forces and Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq on the successful operation that led to the closure of the notorious block B in Roumieh prison.

“I salute the Internal Security Forces that executed with an admirable success the operation at Roumieh prison and imposed the authority of the state,” said Jumblat via twitter.

He also made a “special” praise for al-Mashnouq, who oversaw the operation, “which proves and stresses that the state of Lebanon is strong despite all the hardships.”

Jumblat expressed hope that the Lebanese authorities would “consolidate their power in all fields.”

“Yesterday's operation was an additional achievement for Lebanese security forces in their fight against terrorism,” he tweeted.

On Monday, the ISF transferred detainees from block B where Islamists were being held after an investigation suggested that the weekend suicide bombing in the northern city of Tripoli was directed from the facility.

The clearing of block B came after years of warnings that the overcrowded section was a meeting point for militants to plot attacks.

"We have ended the legend that was Roumieh prison," al-Mashnouq told a press conference after the operation.

The inmates were transferred to block D, which has been renovated and has better security.

Three quarters of the country is outside the authority of the state much less a prison block. And it is starting to look like the that prison block - notorious, overcrowded, and the place where attacks are plotted. Lebanon IS becoming Block B.
