Jordan on Monday delivered armored personnel carriers and gun motor carriages to the Lebanese army as part of “continuous cooperation” with Lebanon in the face of “the threat of terrorism.”

The vehicles were handed over at a ceremony held at the Beirut Naval Base, in the presence of Major General Nayel al-Raqqad, head of the strategic planning department of the Jordanian Armed Forces.

The military donation included “thirty M113 armored personnel carriers and twelve 155mm howitzer motor carriages,” according to a Lebanese army statement.

During a visit by Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq to Amman on February 12, King Abdullah II of Jordan had expressed readiness to aid and train the Lebanese army.

“We are one... Jordan is ready to offer the Lebanese army all its needs of arms and military equipment, including free training at all our bases,” sources quoted the king as saying in comments published in al-Mustaqbal newspaper.

Representing Army chief General Jean Qahwaji at Monday's ceremony, Brig. Gen. Manuel Kerjian hailed “the military cooperation between the two brotherly armies and the continuous cooperation to confront the common threats and challenges, especially the threat of terrorism.”

In December 2013, Saudi Arabia donated three billion dollars for the purchase of arms from France for the benefit of the Lebanese army. It offered another $1 billion donation in August 2014 in the wake of deadly border battles between the army and Syria-based jihadist groups.

Any weapons that can be used against terrorism should be welcolmed.

Lebanon is not in a position to turn down military aid even if it's not enough.

This is good, when Arab countries cooperate, it's always a step in the right direction. Interesting situation though, it took a common ruthless evil threat known as IS to galvanize the Arabs into a common cause. Whatever it may be, good work Jordan, the sole protector of the land is and will remain the LAF, period.

More rusty M113s, as if the LAF didn't have enough already.

Thumb Mystic 23 February 2015, 19:40

How about some of those F-16s or Abrams tanks? Ofcourse the LAF will never get anything but scrap from the west and gulf countries, because they assist the Resistance in combating Nusra/IS.

Mystic, you are not in sync with the latest, you see them things you mentioned? They're coming bro and you will believe it only when you will see them land at Beirut port. Then about them rusty M113, what do you think we in the LF fought the war, with shiny armor? No, we fought with whatever we had, rust no rust, we rubbed really hard the noses of the Syrians and those who wanted to sell the land off.

If the LAF & Lebanon were such a good friend of the United States, then how come they don't provide the army more sophisticated weaponry? Forget about Iran & the Resistance for now, I am asking you people a simple question.

M113s are junk, real junk Phoenix. Nusra fires a single RPG that will burst through them as empty soda cans. Not joking neither, I can't believe you people are naive enough to take all these scrap as if it were gold. It's the same as if someone feeds me from the garbage, while he has a resturant, and i tell him "Thank you my master."

Remember we live in 2015 not the 80's any longer. The LAF should upgrade now.

Whatever texas, my question still stands. If you do not answer it, and if you reply with the same usual nonsense. Then I will not reply to you at all, because that is a waste of my time. Answer my question above, and then we can continue our discussion.

If the LAF & Lebanon were such a good friend of the United States, then how come they don't provide the army more sophisticated weaponry?

Jordan is a "Normal" country. It is refreshing to have a "Normal" country in our region, we are surrounded by "regional powers wannabes".

Assad wants to be a "regional power", Erdogan wants to be a "regional power", The iranian mullahs want to be regional power, KSA, Israel, even tiny qatar wants to be regional powers. jordan and lebanon are like 2 soldiers surrounded by generals.

Lebanon still can't get real planes and helicopters, since the US is afraid we'll use them against the Zionists,
