Sami Gemayel Formally Announces Candidacy for Kataeb Party Leadership

MP Sami Gemayel announced on Wednesday his nomination for the presidency of the Kataeb party.

He declared during a press conference: “Because I believe that the Kataeb has the power to introduce change, I have decided to run for the presidency of the party.”

The Kataeb has an economic and social plan for Lebanon that would once again give the people hope, he added.

“If elected its president, I will attempt to prove to all Lebanese that the Kataeb adopts an agenda and a project for Lebanon,” he remarked.

“If elected its president, I will ensure that the party has no room for corrupt people,” stressed Gemayel, while emphasizing the importance of honest practices.

The party should set an example to all people and parties, he declared to applause by the gatherers.

“The Kataeb party will be open to all sides and open to cooperating with all rival parties, while still adhering to its values,” the MP said.

“These dealings and dialogues will be based on mutual respect, honesty, and truth,” he said.

“The Kataeb is open to all Lebanese from all over Lebanon and regardless of their sect. It is open to all youths who seek Lebanon's interests,” he stated.

“The party should lead the wave that rejects corruption and linking Lebanon to regional conflicts,” he said.

“It is a Lebanese party, which is made in Lebanon, and which adopts a Lebanese agenda,” he stressed.

“We will not place the interests of individuals above the interests of Lebanon,” Gemayel added.

“It should lead a revolt against the current fragmentation of the state. The party should once again rise to the forefront in Lebanon,” he stated.

The Kataeb's new project will not be based on relying on foreign powers, he said.

“We have had long experience with relying on foreign powers. Those who are doing so today will be proven wrong,” he stated.

In May, Amin Gemayel, Sami's father, announced that he will not be running for a new term at the head of the party.

He has been the head of the party since February 2008.

so many promises... so little credibility... lol

Missing helicopter 04 June 2015, 04:07

mowaten, what you said is premature and not credible. But what is proven and credible is that your master Nasrallah has and still fulfilling all his promises to the Mullahs of Iran.

Thumb _mowaten_ 04 June 2015, 08:28

you need to check your definition of "proven" you troll :)

Thumb _mowaten_ 04 June 2015, 08:30

as for ibn gemayel, there is nothing premature in saying a kid who never made his proofs in any way else than being daddy's son has no credibility. just like saadoun had none when he inherited daddy's throne and has since proven he was a total failure, sulking in riyadh since.

“Because I believe that the Kataeb has the power to introduce change, I have decided to run for the presidency of the party.”

Yea, because he "believes" in the kataeb not because that's the only party he can run in, and the one he is stuck is because he inherited it. Hypocrisy already beaming from every word.

stuck *with

Lo, and so said the almighty Mowaten.

Thumb -phoenix1 04 June 2015, 14:23

Mowaten, I must commend you for thinking like this, you and people who share your opinion base and you know why? because this kind of thinking is what will eventually bring your downfall. You're only a human being, nothing more and nothing less. This kind of attitude has been amply cataloged in history, it's called the feeling of invincibility. In Syria some year ago you felt so, today you should have drawn a lesson, sadly so is not the case. Treating your opponents with such disdain will confirm to you that your road to a dead end will be inevitable, sooner or later. Now to confront the master himself, if Sami Gemayel has made you people so very uncomfortable when he lived under his old man's shadow, what will he do now that he is freed from it? Don't guess ya Mowaten, I bet you that you don't have that kind of flexibility of thought.

Sami, You are far better than Amine....

How about: if i am elected president of kataeb, i will abolish its "family owned/business" side and make of it a meritocracy party, where any member (not from the gemayel family...) can become ita president... That is the change we are all waiting for, but it doesn't seem for anytime soon...

Pfffff
another feudal leader whereby leadership is passed on from father to son and this is the main reason why this delusional Aoun was able to capture the Christian voice
one question what are the chances of a fair elections if he was opposd by a non gemayel candidate??

Thumb -phoenix1 04 June 2015, 14:50

Cool bro, I understand your feelings that's for sure and to a certain level I do share in them. But you see, this feudal thing still exists here, I cannot deny that either. Now in the case of Sami's succession, in these difficult times it was expected and for good reasons. You see, we all seem to have forgotten that during the war, the command of the Kataeb was in the hands on a non-Gemayel. Georges Saadeh took control of the Party from 1986 until his death in 1998, Mounir Hajj became the president of the party in 1999, followed by Karim Pakradouni in 2002. Sami being from the new generation is here to change this party for the better, with new thinking and anew vision, just let us give him the time and the space to do it.

Thumb -phoenix1 04 June 2015, 14:57

Then my dear Cool, let us also not forget that the Gemayel family has lost a higher than average number of Martyrs for Lebanon. Maurice died of frustration from a government that never listened. Bachir, Maya, and Pierre, can we ignore that? Are the rest of the Gemayels not in real danger? Wouldn't the enemies of Lebanon and their Lebanese and foreign lackeys not assassinate one of them if given half a chance? I can't imagine Lebanon without its true sons, in this case like the Gemayels, certainly the Kataeb is not perfect, but the Kataeb has done a lot for this country, as I said earlier, let give Sami time and space. Again before we part, who can forget Sami being at the very front of the resistance during the Syrian occupation? How many times was he beaten up by them and Lebanese security? Did Sami do like the spoilt kids of other leaders, driving in big SUVs like all rich kids do? Sami was with us in difficult times and he proved his courage, I believe in him.

it is as bad s Walid junblatt resigning and passing on his seat to his son Taymour
Pfffffff Poor lebanon

Missing helicopter 04 June 2015, 04:12

I think the article said he is nominated and running for election. Just because he is the Son does not disqualify him (even the USA has its Clinton's, Bush's, Roosevelts, and other dynasties). It would be awesome though if someone else ends up winning just for the sake of being a role model for other parties (even thou I love everything he said as per the article.)
