Ibrahim Meets Pope in Vatican, Discusses Presidential Vacuum

General Security chief Abbas Ibrahim held talks on Saturday with Pope Francis I in the Vatican.

Ibrahim, accompanied by a delegation from the General Security directorate, discussed with the pontiff the situation of Christians in the region.

They also addressed during their ten-minute meeting the vacuum in the presidency in Lebanon, said a General Security statement.

The pope showed interest in the situation in Lebanon and Ibrahim presented him with an icon that dates back to the 18th century.

Lebanon has been without a president since May 2014 when the term of Michel Suleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have thwarted the polls.

Abbas Ibrahim is a public employee and has no business traveling and getting involved in politics, let alone discuss the "situation of Christians in the region:.!

General Abbas Ibrahim the shining example of how Michel Aoun used his third share of ten ministers in the Nasrallah cabinet to return to the Christians their stolen rights, that's how you know that all his rhetoric about Christian rights is real ;)

"Ibrahim, accompanied by a delegation from the General Security directorate, discussed with the pontiff the situation of Christians in the region."

Did Abbas Ibrahim tell the Pope when he was discussing the situation of the Christians with him that he ( Abbas Ibrahim ) is a Shia who is occupying a post that was illegally taken from the Christians?

I hope he enlightened the Pope how HA liberated Baabda from the likes of President Sleiman and how HA and its allies boycotted all parliamentary sessions to elect President. I hope he also relayed to him HA stance that only a President that would provide cover for HA and rubber stamp all its activities would be allowed in Baabda

How about negotiating the release of our soldiers and finish the task your superiors gave you, instead of embarking on expensive touristic trips abroad claiming relevance and importance.
