Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi stressed on Monday that it is necessary to call for the election of a head of state, urging the parliament to take "technical action" with regard to the financial laws.
“As Christians, it is our duty to call for the election of a president and for the restoration of the functions of the parliament, the cabinet and public institutions” said al-Rahi during the opening of 49th cycle of the Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Bkirki.
“We ask the parliament to take the necessary technical action with regard to the financial laws in light of the inability for normal legislation” he added.
A legislative session is set to convene on the 12th and 13th of November to ratify urgent laws under the title the legislation of necessity, and to ratify financial laws.
The World Bank has warned Lebanon that it would drop it from its list of aid receivers for years to come in the absence of the necessary financial legislation.
“It is a pity how personal interests are surmounting the interest of the state,” lamented al-Rahi in reference to the disputes among politicians, the latest on what items to include on the agenda of the session.
“We are sorry for the manner that some politicians are using to address the national interests,” he concluded.
The Kataeb Party said they will boycott the legislative seseion over the failure to elect a new president.
The Lebanese Forces and Free Patriotic Movement are also considering a boycott over the failure to include the parliamentary electoral law on the session's agenda.
The two sides had recently signed an agreement on the draft-law on restoring the nationality of expatriates.

The one who is boycotting, is the one who is destroying the Christians.

The "Bishop of Da7yieh" is not on the picture....maybe on the "other side"???

@humble, we need constructive criticism. We are all angry with what's going on in Lebanon, but we need to think about how we can collectively change the situation. the change we are looking for begins in ourselves.

Change starts from within and then comes Reform. Hezbollah, Israel, Russia and Aoun are the only 4 countries working for change and reform in the interests of Lebanon..... the rest pffft.

the new financial laws are a disaster for lebanon if approved in parliament. Has any newspaper or anyone published what these laws are about. 8.9 Billions of transfers from Lebanese abroad will stop coming to Lebanon as most of this money would then have to be declared first and taxed and this cant happen. Lebanon is heading towards a financial disaster if these laws are APPROVED. Lebanon should not agree to the pressure from the World bank which is the biggest financial mafia in the world. and The Lebanese banking mafia which is acting as the world bank agents. the conspiracy is to force the lebanese state to borrow more money on higher interest rates than current one which will benefit only the banks and no one else.

Humble is a man of integrity who tells the truth. He is a true patriot and is loyal to Lebanon only. He considers those who receive money and orders from outside as corrupt and traitors, because they are harming Lebanon. Such people work for their own interests and not for the common good.
Although Humble is not with M14, he remains adamant against M8 who obey to external forces which are enemy to Lebanon.
Humble believes that Caporal is harming Lebanon and the Christians.
This has been proven to be evident in the past two years.
It happens that Humble knows many people from the Tayyar from whom he receives updates. This makes M8 supporters upset because they want to dispute or reject such important facts.
Humble is not worried about M8 reactions because there cannot be any other reactions.
Finally, Humble would hope to see Lebanon rising again from the ashes where it is.

The worst enemy to Humble is stupidity, lack of intellect, and people deprived from reasoning abilities.
Lebanon was built thanks to great people like Gibran, Michel Chiha, Charles Malek, Charles Corm, Ra7bani, Sa3eed 3akl, Georges Chehade, Fayrouz, etc. Today, the intellect has been lowered to a disastrous degree...and Humble wonders if it will ever be recovered.
Is The greatest richness of Lebanon lost for ever?
