Saniora: Hizbullah's Ties with Iran Tarnished Lebanon's Relations with Arab Countries

W460

Head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora blamed Hizbullah's “meddling” in Lebanese affairs at Iran's bidding has turned the country into a “body without a head,” reported the pan-Arab daily Ashara al-Awsat on Sunday.

He told the daily that the ongoing vacuum in the presidency “has created a huge void and allowed Iran's ties with Hizbullah to tarnish Lebanon's relations with Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia.”

He therefore called on Tehran to “distance itself from interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries.”

Iran's “systematic” intervention in Lebanon through Hizbullah has caused the state to lose the ability to build its institutions in a responsible manner, continued the former premier.

This has created a “major political setback” that has affected Lebanon's “historic” ties with Arab countries.

Lebanon has been without a president since the term of Michel Suleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps have thwarted the polls.

Hizbullah earlier this year said it would boycott the presidential elections until it receives guarantees that its candidate, Change and Reform bloc chief MP Michel Aoun, is elected head of state.

The March 14 camp and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat have repeatedly accused Iran of being responsible for the delay in electing a president.

For me, as a Christian, the traitor is the Caporal who gave them a Christian legitimity.

You really believe the LAF to be lackeys of the Hezb?
Such faith you have in the Army, must be because you are wahabis and yahoudis.

Thumb Mystic 01 May 2016, 13:16

Fact is, you are the wolves and the sheep are the Lebanese people, and the shephards are the Army and Resistance.

Lebanon does not need a President, it already has one: the Wali al Faquih, we don't need 2 presidents

Saniora appears to be CAptain Obvious, but it is not so "obvious". Iran could not paralyze Lebanon with out its proxy force, Hezbollah, in place. But even with Hezbollah this is not enough. IRan needs an enabler as well. Someone who will boycott their 30 MPs in a consistent manner. The FPM plays that role, a nominally Christian Party. Without FPM the political paralysis program imposed on Lebanon would not work.
FPM Is so loyal to the project because of patronage money from Iran, and the infiltration of FPM party members into the Ministries where they have freely looted the State. Why? BEcause their constituency demands to be paid off, and to stay in power with a constituency, the Party must pay.

Thumb beiruti 01 May 2016, 17:25

This is the same system employed by Berri with the Shia; by Jumblatt with the Druze and by Hariri with the Sunni. Each must pay their constituency to maintain a constituency, which wins seats in Parliament and control of the Government and the State. It is all transactional- give me money and I give you my vote, but no money no vote because a vote is seen as a thing of value, then a price must be extracted to give it.
These people have no concept of a national or of a state. It's a based on quid pro quo transactions and commerce and any thing of value is turned into a commodity and sold to the highest bidder. It is not a country, Lebanon because the people do not see themselves as citizens of it, they see themselves as customers or as suppliers with something to buy or sell.

You are right when you say that people do not see themselves as citizens....what a shame! We have not yet reached a maturity of managing ourselves by ourselves...
