President Michel Aoun met on Wednesday with Syria's Grand Mufti Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun at the Baabda Palace, the National News Agency reported.

Hassoun was accompanied by Syrian Ambassador for Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali, NNA added.

After the meeting Hassoun praised the Lebanese President saying: “Aoun was elected by the people before he was elected by the leaders. He is a national man.”

He added: “We have not been at odds with anyone and will not be at odds with anyone. We urge those on bad terms with us to shake hands, reconcile and forgive.”

Hassoun and Ali held talks later in the day with Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi at the seat of the Maronite church in Bkirki.

The Mufti's visit to Lebanon is not the first by a Syrian figure following the election of Aoun on October 31. In November, envoy of Syrian President and Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam visited Aoun and conveyed a message of congratulation on his election from Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Back in 1989, Aoun was a staunch opponent of the Syrian regime while he was the head of a transitional military government. Aoun fled to the French embassy and eventually to Paris after Syrian warplanes bombed the presidential palace where he was residing during an October 13, 1990 offensive.

Grand Mufti? This guy is Bashars mufti and gives him a religious cover for his evil and satanism. Let him then enjoy the wrath of God that befalls those who die upon barbarism and religious hypocrisy.

The Syrian Grand Mufti is a hero. His son was murdered by foriegn islamist terrorists. He has resisted the muslim civil war... The Syrians and Bashar Assad are very lucky to have him! This muslim sectarian war is an evil that is destroying the lives of many innocent people! Remove ALL foreigners from Syria and there is no more war!

Thumb Mrowwe 07 December 2016, 16:10

How did he resist the war by supporting the regime that bears a huge responsibility in this war? You can't be against one side of terrorism while supporting the other. He is a sell-out and a hypocrite. There is even footage of him sayibg he is against suicide bombings in Palestine and then another footage of him threatning Europe with the same thing. That is a typical syrian regime cleric. I'm sure that you ya Ado knows very well the oppression that the syrian regime inflicted on the Syrian and Lebanese people both before the "revolution" and during. They have more blood on their hands than isis. That does not mean isis is better than them as terrorists are all evil and they do not deserve to be described as "at least better than...".

he's supported by the majority of decent Sunnis, the same support that Assad and his army enjoy....keep whining you little brown thing.

Thumb the_roar 07 December 2016, 15:16

He already knows his a little brown thing...the terrorist logo!

Watch him try to repeat it, so he don;t forget.

lol Southern, you have branded him.

Thumb Mrowwe 07 December 2016, 16:12

Thank you Mufti Chief analysist Southern for claring that out for us. A decent sunni in your view is a supporter of bashar and his terrorist militias.

Why is nasrallah brown if he is phoenician and why does he claim to be descended from Ali, an arab from mekka if he is phoenician? Why did you people choose an arab descended from the desert to lead you if you are anti-arab phoenicians? Hehe just some questions every wannabe-phoencian shiite should ask himself. *Drops mic*

Thumb ado.australia 07 December 2016, 16:56

Zarkil, if you are Phoenician, you can't be muslim? Why must muslims be Arabs? Lebanese should be proud of our Phoenician ancestry! Phoenicians invented the alphabet. Colonised spain, northern africa, circumnavigated africa and most likely landed in america, 1000 years before columbus!

Thumb Mrowwe 07 December 2016, 17:39

Oh wow lol. I was responding to SOUTHERN who previously implied that arabs are brown while phoenicians are white. Secondly i never said phoenicians can't be Muslim, i was rather mocking a wannabe-phoenician who belittles arabs while his own leader is a brown arab who boasts about his ancestors who were arabs from mekka. I am not in any way belittling arabs, i am belittling the logic of fool who regularly posts trash on this forum. I hope you get it now and don't come back with another irrelevent response. Awkward when people misunderstand and think they *dropped a mic* with their reply.

Thumb Southern...... 07 December 2016, 18:04

"..I was responding to SOUTHERN who previously implied that arabs are brown while phoenicians are white.":

from where you got that trash!? i never said so and never will do it, since this is the language of racists, sectarians and narrow-minded like you!... so, step back!

btw, when i use the phrase "brown thing", it refers to different matter!
