President Michel Aoun has received an invitation to make a state visit to France from French President Emmanuel Macron, Lebanon's National News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Macron also promised that he would visit Lebanon in the spring as part of a tour of the Middle East.

“I want to stress our clinging to the countries that are witnessing divides and tensions in the region. I will soon meet with the prime minister of Lebanon and Lebanon's president, who will make a state visit to France,” Macron said.

“In the name of our historic ties, France wants to support Lebanon, which is going through a critical situation and which is confronting it courageously and with a high sense of responsibility,” Macron added.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri is scheduled to visit France on Friday for talks with Macron and a number of French officials.
