Geagea Urges Govt. for 'Sovereign Decision' on Syrian Refugees

W460

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has called on the government to take a "sovereign decision" on the issue of returning Syrian refugees to their country.

“We could not but take in the people who fled from Iraq and Syria. We cannot allow anyone to tamper with these humanitarian principles, but now the situation has changed,” said Geagea during a visit to Australia.

“Now there are safe regions in Syria and it is necessary for the refugees to return to them and become close to their hometowns,” Geagea added.

“What would refugees benefit from a country such as Lebanon if it collapsed under the burden of the refugee crisis?” the LF leader asked.

He added: “It's about time the government took a decision on the issue of the return of the refugees because it is a sovereign decision before anything else. It must carry out the necessary arrangements to return them to their country.”

I agree with SOS and Humble on this one. Geagea had made no mistakes since he got out of prison, until this alliance that contradicts logic, and the positions the LF had until now. Siding with Aoun was a wrong decision. The LF lost their independence and values over this sordid deal...

UN is a bureaucratic dinosaur that gets nothing done. They procrastrinate all returns of refugees from european countries. It like that no bullet shall be fired in a country if the Un will recommend re-patriating refugees, which of course will never happen in a country like Syria. Its wise if lebanese politicians act to send the syrians back to rebuild their country in safe areas. Forget about other areas of politics that you may disagree about, and at least get this important thing done.
