Aoun Rejects 'Humiliation' at Gas Stations but Urges No Leniency with 'Riots'

President Michel Aoun on Tuesday presided over a meeting for the Higher Defense Council which tackled a number of pressing issues.

Speaking at the beginning of the meeting, Aoun said “the main objective is to discuss the security situation in the country, especially with the coming of summer season and the expectations that the touristic season will be promising with the arrival of Lebanese expats from abroad.”

“It is necessary to provide the appropriate atmosphere in order to secure a calm and proper stay for them,” Aoun added.

Noting that “what happened over the past days at gas stations is unacceptable” and that “the humiliation of citizens is rejected under any considerations,” the President called on officials to “prevent the recurrence of such practices.”

As for the protests that have rocked the country over the past days, Aoun said “freedom of expression is guaranteed for everyone on the condition that it does not turn into chaos and riots.”

“Security agencies must not be lenient in dealing with (the riots) in order to preserve citizens’ safety and public order and protect public and private property,” the President added.

The meeting also tackled the congestion at the Rafik Hariri International Airport and the situation and safety of oil depots on the Lebanese coast after a report was submitted by the Customs administration in this regard.

This pos wants a hungry child, a mother in pain, a father in despair and a cancer patient who cannot find medicine to express their dissatisfaction in a calm and orderly manner.

بالرغم من الذل الذي يعيشه المواطن اللبناني مع تفاقم الأزمات الاقتصادية والمعيشية وانهيار الليرة فضلا عن انقطاع الكهرباء والذل أمام محطات البنزين، افضى اجتماع مجلس الأعلى للدفاع في بعبدا الى التوافق على عدم السماح لبعض المخلّين بالأمن زعزعة الوضع الأمني، وكان البلاد بألف خير ولا شيء يدعو المواطن الى الغضب والنزول الى الشارع للمطالبة بأدنى متطلبات الحياة، وذلك بدلا من البحث عن حلول من شأنها امتصاص غضب الناس عبر فرملة الانهيار الحاصل في مختلف القطاعات. ولأن البلاد والليرة بألف خير، لفت الأمين العام للمجلس الأعلى للدفاع، اللواء الركن محمود الأسمر، بعد اجتماع المجلس في قصر بعبدا برئاسة رئيس الجمهوريّة ميشال عون، إلى أنّه “تقرّر الطلب إلى الأجهزة العسكريّة والأمنيّة الإبقاء على الجهوزيّة اللّازمة، لعدم السماح لبعض المخلّين بالأمن، زعزعة الوضع الأمني بسبب الأوضاع الماليّة والاقتصاديّة والمعيشيّة، خاصّةً في ما يتعلّق بإقفال الطرق العامّة أو التعدّي على الأملاك العامّة والخاصّة”.

All these meetings are both illegal and unconstitutional. Nevertheless, looking at the picture and the number of attendees you would think this was a meeting of super powers. The ego and narcissism are quite obvious. He also has a Colonel from the Republican Guard walk behind him as he enters the meeting and rushes to pull out his chair so he may get seated.

The very same people whose actions, corruption, and incompetence are causing the people's humiliation meet and reject the 'Humiliation'! These 20 plus useless heads of security each came with a convoy of escort vehicles and I just wonder if they also lined up for 8 hours to fill up their cars and felt the humiliation they reject.

Again I call for merciless execution of these mafia heads.
