Aoun seeks Turkey’s backing to implement framework deal

President Joseph Aoun said Thursday that Turkey is well-positioned to advocate for the framework agreement internationally and urge all parties to abide by its terms, as he visited the country to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other officials.

Aoun said he thinks Turkey can support Lebanon "given its NATO membership and strong regional ties".

"We plan to discuss expanding ongoing military support and training programs with Ankara," the President said, adding that any Turkish aid will reinforce, rather than substitute, current U.S. and international support.

Aoun affirmed Lebanon’s commitment to the framework agreement, noting that its success hinges on clear guarantees: a complete Israeli withdrawal synchronized with the deployment of the Lebanese Army, a total end to hostilities, and an effective international monitoring mechanism to ensure Israel's compliance as well.
