Fadlallah says Hezbollah and Amal not against 'political solution' in south

MP Hassan Fadlallah on Friday announced that Hezbollah and the Amal Movement are not opposed to a “political solution” for south Lebanon.

"We are not warmongers; rather, these wars were imposed upon us because our destiny -- especially as the people of the South -- is to live next to this Zionist entity. Our people have endured a history rife with aggression, expansionist ambitions, and attempts to seize our villages and towns,” Fadlallah said.

He added: “Our goal in this phase, after all this Israeli aggression, is the liberation of the south, returning to it, and rebuilding it. We support diplomacy rooted in our rights and are open to indirect negotiations if they lead us to this goal.”

“However, this objective cannot be achieved through surrender, submission, or subservience, as such policies lead only to the continuation of the occupation --which is precisely what the ruling authority did by entrenching this occupation through the framework agreement," Fadlallah lamented.

Noting that “Hezbollah and the Amal Movement have not shut the doors and are not against a political solution” in south Lebanon, the lawmaker pointed out that “since November 27, 2024, no reasonable political solution has been presented to us that protects the country, stops the assassinations, and allows people to return to their homes."

Separately, Fadlallah said Hezbollah has kept its ministers in the government due to “national and political necessities related to partnership” and due to an understanding with the Amal Movement on staying in the government at this time. “However, this does not mean that its policy is successful or that its political weight makes any significant difference," Fadlallah added, referring to Nawaf Salam’s government.
