Youth and Sports Minister Faisal Karami called on Saturday the cabinet to hold an extraordinary session to confront the ongoing “farce” in Tripoli, the National News Agency reported.

“The government should unleash the security forces in order to control the situation by force and to disarm the militias,” Karami said.

He urged the cabinet to prevent any illegal political movements that seek to make Tripoli part of the regional conflict over the crisis in Syria.

Gunbattles erupted on Saturday in Tripoli between mostly Sunni Bab al-Tabbaneh and mainly Alawites neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen.

Karami also told al-Jadeed channel that he is “confident” that the army can control the situation in the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.

He warned that the northern city’s economy was threatened by the recent incidents.

According to NNA, Karami called on the cabinet to assume its responsibilities.

Bab al-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen have been gripped by frequent fighting, reflecting a split between Lebanon's parties where the March 14- led opposition backs the revolt in Syria while a ruling coalition led by Hizbullah supports the Damascus regime.

“The government should unleash the security forces in order to control the situation by force and to disarm the militias,” Karami said.

this should be a hint then for march 14, that is they need to disarm hizbullah then they should start clashes with them, because then march 8 such as karami would issue the statement that the government should unleash he security forces in order to control the situation by force and to disarm the militias....

This is ridiculous! The army should go in and take control of the situation, no political cover and no crap! The army should should have a shoot to kill clearance, anyone fires at the army should be shot at immediately, and anyone carrying any kind of weapons should be arrested and thrown in jail with a military tribunal and due punishment. These two neighborhoods are going to drag the country into a war and everyone is holding "meetings" about it....Meetings are not going to solve anything, force is the answer with these morons....
I can't believe that these people are on the news, holding their AK-47 and talking on the news without any fear of being arrested....would I be able to carry a gun without a permit? hell no, I would be arrested in a flash!

Two wrongs do not make it right, no one appointed the Allawites to defend us against Israel, no one appointed Hizbollah to defend the South and Jbeil from Israel, unless I am missing a state law excluding electricity payment in the Dahye, I would like to purchase a piece of real estate and live there to avoid paying for the utilities. Why are we spending 13 billion dollars to fix the electricity meanwhile a group is excluded from paying. This idiot is asking the ISF to calm Tripoli and disarm the militias meanwhile his followers are allowed to carry guns and Klashikof weapons in their stores all over Tripoli. Call on the Government to write a law to jail for 1 year ANYONE caught with a gun or weapon. If the politicians do not agree on the security of the state then forget the state and let's go back to the mini-states militias.
