The Phalange Party warned Monday that chaos is the alternative of national dialogue, calling on President Michel Suleiman and the country's leaders to broaden the discussions in the dialogue committee and move to “rescue Lebanon from all illegitimate arms.”

In a statement issued after a meeting of its political bureau, the Phalange Party said that “Hizbullah's weapons have started spawning other weapons, which might turn Lebanon into an arsenal of illegal arms,” calling on the party officials to “shoulder their national responsibility and present a vision about their arms and to acknowledge the exclusive legitimacy of the state’s weapons.”

The Phalange party expressed its concern regarding the “tensed political and security atmosphere, mainly the events in Palestinian camps, the exposing and endangering of the army, as well as the tit-for-tat abductions and the blocking of the airport road.”

The statement called on the cabinet to provide “full political support to the military and security forces in their efforts to maintain peace and stability in the country.”

The party applauded the meeting held between a March 14 delegation and Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi, hoping for “continuous communication to restore essential common principles between the patriarchate and the Maronite leaders, mainly the issues of illegitimate arms and regional developments.”

This new Patriarch is fishy. He's à voile et à vapeur. We must keep an eye on him. The Gemayels are definitely right, thank God there are people like them in Lebanon.

i'm not saying that i agree with hizbullah having arms, but let's face the facts... this articale says that "Phalange Party said that “Hizbullah's weapons have started spawning other weapons, which might turn Lebanon into an arsenal of illegal arms,”"... fact of the matter is that Lebanon is unfortunetly already an arsenal of illegal arms, and has been so for a very long time. the arms issue in lebanon extends over the ENTIRE coutry, and yes i do believe that Hizbullah should disarm sooner or later, but so should every household in the country.

It's true that Hizbollah shouldn't have its own militia and guns! but it's way better to have hizbollah rather than having the qa3idah ruling lebanon. Look at Egypt, it's originally coptic, and where are they now?? they are leaving their country or getting screwed by the salafist. and look at syria now, the salafist are trying to take over. the thing that we are not noticing, is that if think about what's going on in the middle east, it will be obvious for everyone to see that all the salafist and al qa3idah are trying to take over. and believe me they won't recognize christians from durzie or chiet. they are a pure threatening to our country

I think Hezbollah should hold on to their arms till there are no more Salafists in Lebanon.

"I think Hezbollah should hold on to their arms till there are no more Salafists in Lebanon."

very smart.. what is the army and the ISF for?

all the arms should go th these forces ONLY! if you believe in an independent state then it is that way not the way the hezb wants!

if you want the hezb to keep their arms then your logic should tell you that all parties or extremists can have weapons as the hezb does... that is the logic of letting the hezb keep its arms!!!!
