Aoun Accuses Berri of ‘Hiding’ Draft-Laws, Says he ‘Liberated’ Hizbullah from FPM ‘Burden’

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun accused Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday of “hiding” the projects of Change and Reform bloc MPs proposed to parliament rather than pushing for their approval.

Berri is “hiding our projects” in the drawers of parliamentary offices, Aoun told al-Akhbar daily about the failure of parliament to discuss several draft-laws proposed by his bloc’s lawmakers, including the establishment of a security committee, and resolving the issue of Lebanese who have escaped to Israel and of property ownership by foreigners.

Media reports have said that ties between the FPM chief and Berri, who are both allied with Hizbullah, deteriorated after the Change and Reform bloc accused the speaker of encouraging the parliament’s approval of a draft-law on the full-time employment of Electricite du Liban workers without considering the cabinet’s bill.

Monday’s approval of the draft-law forced three Christian blocs, including the Change and Reform, to boycott the parliamentary session on Tuesday, leading to its suspension.

The ministers loyal to Aoun also boycotted a cabinet session.

Aoun stressed to al-Akhbar that the boycott has nothing to do with sectarian divisions after several MPs argued that the EDL bill would lead to the underrepresentation of Christians in state institutions.

“We are talking about administrative, organizational and legal standards,” the lawmaker said.

About his ties with Hizbullah, Aoun reiterated that he backs the party as a resistance against Israel. But in politics, “it was proved that the FPM’s priorities are different than the priorities of Hizbullah,” he said.

“I am not saying that there has been a separation between us and the party. I am just saying that we liberated the party from the burden of an internal political approach that probably exhausts it or that it cannot tolerate,” Aoun said.

Al-Akhbar hinted that the agreement reached between the FPM and Hizbullah in 2006 was in tatters after the Shiite party stood as an “observer” when EDL’s contract workers launched a strike two months ago to demand their employment rather than standing beside Energy Minister Jebran Bassil, who is Aoun’s son-in-law.

FPM sources also accuse Hizbullah of not pressuring Berri into adopting several of the draft-laws proposed by Change and Reform bloc MPs.

Exactly like the Syrian Chabiha. They don't answer the Syrian Army anymore/// They are local criminals that enjoy impunity... obviously lawless but also completely autonomous.

LoL ... I would like to hear Berri say that he would like to maintain friendship with Claoun after this recent episode!!!
I wonder if this recent move is a stroke of genius to re-appeal to the christian population prior to the elections or just another episode of stupidity. I guess time will tell.

this is a bit like: I'm sorry sir but my dog ate the laws and projects i drafted. You should have seen them. Lebanon would have become a paradise in 2013 with me as president, electricity 24/7, safety in all regions, infrastructure. You name it. it was all there and i could have done it with no problem. but well.. That damn dog :)

Two scum bags in Berri and Aoun, either way boys grab your popcorn this is getting interesting.

Thumb fadi_albeiruti 05 July 2012, 10:56

By the way who does this clown get along with? He hates Jumblat, he dislikes Berri, and clearly he's not on the same page as Hizb al shitan and we know he hates Hariri and LF/Kataeb, who's left?

Missing rudy 05 July 2012, 11:50

FT be a bit objective and take a look at the news in the past couple of years. you will see that there is hate and very often unprovoked attacks in his tuesday circus show.

second, when everyone around you, with no exception, is always wrong, and you're the only one who has the right idea presumably, then something isnt quite right is it? ;)

Thumb jabal10452 05 July 2012, 12:27

FT I said it before: if only Aoun controlled his rhetoric and incredibly spontaneous outbursts that only provoke the public who doesn't agree with him, the situation in the Christian camp would be much better. There are plenty of things that Aoun is correct about in principle, but the way he packages his message is not very diplomatic. Politicians must be diplomatic. Aoun is a hothead and always been. That's his biggest weakness.

And rudy: Hariri built Beirut and created jobs, yes. But he destroyed invaluable treasures of our heritage in the process. Countless historians, archeologists and thinkers have written countless reports about this process and nobody listens. Beirut is aping Dubai. Beirut is not Dubai. Beirut has more kinship with Alexandria, Athens and Rome than with Dubai. This ancient kinship that is at the heart of the Lebanese heritage and culture is being systematically erased. I hope you get my point.

My post about Beirut was adressed to fadi. Sorry about that.

Aoun became a traitor the day he embrassed the syrian regime of the Assad, angainst the well being of his country!

FT, I PRAY that the Kataeb / LF / FPM find common ground and a common purpose. The long-term survival of our community is at stake.

The cowardly little general is running out of people to blame of his and his little SIL's stupidity, next he's gonna blame the fishes in the sea and the birds in the sky.

Thumb fadi_albeiruti 05 July 2012, 12:56

@jabal10452, No doubt Hariri made some mistakes but his intentions were good, he played no role whatsoever in the Lebanese civil war in fact he rebuilt what everyone else like Aoun, Berri, Jumblat, Nassrallah, and Geagea had destroyed, he created thousands of well needed jobs for a country coming out of a civil war , hired all Lebanese regardless of sect or political view, now compare that with what Berri, Aoun and the rest of the gang are doing and or have done, they serve mainly their sect and those who support their corrupt policies.

Thumb jabal10452 05 July 2012, 17:30

Fadi I agree to a point. Hariri meant well AND made billions on developing beirut. I also know a lot of people, Christians nonetheless who are very thankful to him for providing good jobs and many benefits for them and their families. I'm not denying him that. But his lack of understanding and even disdain for our non-arab heritage is revolting. I might sound like a broken record here but again I have to bring to everybody's attention that the word 3ouroubé seems to be imbedded in every sentence that the man utters. I can't accept him shoving 3ouroubé down my throat AND being responsible for destroying everything that we inherited that predated the arab / muslim expansion in the Levant. My paranoid mind tells me that there is a plan, a connection. They want to arabize what's left of this country at any cost. Because the bedouins in the gulf say so.

Point well taken jabal10452.

Thumb fadi_albeiruti 05 July 2012, 13:03

Your views are well documented and says a lot about a man who support a clown that left his soldiers to die while he robbed the central bank and escaped in his pejamas to France , flipped flopped on his views and believes and then leaves thousands of his officers and soldiers to rot in Syrian prisons while he becomes a slave to the highest bidder ie Assad/Iran.

Aoun will complain, accuse, denounce, protest until Hassan orders him to jump he'll jump won't even ask how high, in doubt just ask Charbel Nahhas you'll find him under the bus where Aoun threw him.

Thumb thepatriot 05 July 2012, 16:25

Aoun leads nothing! He is on Nasralla's leich!

Thumb thepatriot 05 July 2012, 16:31

hahahahahaha...FT... I know one of Aoun's Bankers in a European city, this person manages one of his numerous bank accounts that is in the name of his spouse, and believe me (why would you?), but Aoun has a massive fortune! As for Bassil...hahahaha...the son in outlaw is not very discreat...:)

Missing kiserwanyaseel 05 July 2012, 20:49

so if he has nothing in common with hizbullah politically, then why is he aligned with them? why is he still in the government? simple answer... they would cut iranian money to him and he wont be able to steal while in the government....

Missing kiserwanyaseel 05 July 2012, 20:53

this man must be a saint... because the whole universe is against him, the whole universe is corrupt, and he is the only person who is always correct, humble, and does not steal. then again, he stole millions from central bank when he left to france, he has his own private jet... lives in a villa that is not his, takes millions from people in order to run under his parliament list or to be appointed as his minister, and he took donations from people to OTV, and his family runs it and he pockets the profits... long live the demented general and his illiterate supporters.
