Blasts Hit Military Complex in Damascus

Powerful explosions shook a military administration building on Tuesday in the Syrian capital Damascus, causing casualties, Syrian Observatory of Human Rights watchdog reported.

"The bombs exploded on Tuesday morning in the headquarters of the administration that manages schools for the children of martyred soldiers," at the start of the Damascus airport road, Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told Agence France Presse.

"The explosions were so powerful that the walls collapsed," he said.

Arab satellite channels had reported a strong blast at the Palestine Branch of Syrian Intelligence in Damascus, killing dozens of people including senior officers.

An Islamist group calling itself the Prophet’s Grandchildren Brigades claimed the attack, the reports said.

But Abdel Rahman said: "There was no explosion at the Palestine Branch."

I may understand the second attack, but attacking a service that deals with children of dead soldiers is reprehensible.

I do not understand. Other news outlets did not describe the place as schools for the children of martyred soldiers, but rather as a school named "Martyrs School" that is mainly used for weekly meeting between security officers and shabiha instead of teaching. Check the article at albawaba.com.

The longer the conflict in Syria is allowed to linger the more chances extremists will have to infest the opposition.
All the nations should assist in ending the Assad regime today before Syria becomes a festering wound that would infect all the region.

that's the part a lot of the M8ers don't get--the longer it lasts, the worst it will be for ALL of us. The status quo will not work.
