Safadi Says Won't Run in Parliamentary Elections

Finance Minister Mohammed Safadi on Wednesday announced that he will not run in the 2013 parliamentary elections.

“I will not run in the parliamentary elections,” said Safadi when asked by reporters why he had not launched his electoral campaign yet. 

Safadi has been representing the northern city of Tripoli in parliament since 2000. He served as the minister of public works and transport from July 2005 to July 2008. Next, he was appointed minister of economy and trade on July 11, 2008 and his tenure lasted until June 2011.

He has been serving as the Minister of Finance since June 13, 2011 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Najib Miqati.
