Jumblat Slams Int'l Community: Prices Paid by Syrian People Less Costly Than Returning to Pre-Revolution Era

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Thursday launched a scathing attack on “the so-called international community” over its reluctance to support the Syrian people, but noted that “the prices that are being paid today by the Syrian people remain less costly than returning to the pre-revolution era.”
Criticizing remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who on Wednesday urged the Syrian opposition to resist efforts by "extremists" to hijack the revolution, Jumblat said the U.S. official had overlooked the fact that “international reluctance to support the opposition … and acknowledge the Syrian National Council are the main two reasons behind the deterioration of the situation in Syria towards the current killing, destruction and sabotage.”
“The intellectual and theoretical luxury that the international community is practicing as Syria burns from one end to the other offers proves once again that the systematic plot to destroy Syria is proceeding in full swing,” Jumblat added.
“The first and only victim is the Syrian people … who are confronting the machine of death and destruction on their own and with an unprecedented courage,” Jumblat said, noting that the Syrian people “realize that the prices that are being paid today remain less costly than returning to the pre-revolution era.”
The PSP leader wished “if only the so-called international community would remove from its record a hallmark of shame that is unprecedented in the history of humanity.”

given that you understand Junblatts predicament and ultimately his mistrust in Saad Harriri and his backers to deliver their end of the bargain(as u mentioned, 2008), why do you still persist with ur request for his withdrawal, which u apparantly understand is unwise given whats happening in Syria? are you just venting? or is it that u think Junblatt ought to pay the price in blood that others have so far refused.

He won't resign because the message from Iran via da7yeh of course is this:
"Resign and the entire Druze sect will be wiped off the face of this planet"
In a full blown secterian disaster in Lebanon, the Druze have no backup whatsoever. I think Jumblatt is very well aware his people are M14 through and through, but he is stuck in a very complex and potentially disasterous situation.

you guys should know better.. you think if jumblat resigned everything will be ok? he did act like this before and look what happened... it was only the druze fighters fighting the killing machine... even here in new york times they called them the druze 300 (like the movie) who fought the persian army... wake the hell up .. we cannot fight and if we do we lose because march 14 are bunch of puss. ..so jumblat needs to act this way try to open your soooo clogged minds and see things the way it is

chouf1... why would Gemayel stand for what he believes (it cost him a son), and why would Geagea (an assasination attempt), and why did Tueini, and Kassir (their lives),and the others despite the threats, the intimidation, the assasination attempts,the killing... they stood still to their convictions. Jumblat has a sect that is even more welded around him, so why won't he take the same courageous stance!? Understand that we are all tired of this status quo that leads to nothing and that Jumblat is mantaining, him being the key to a majority.For info, the LF were ready in Achrafieh on may 2008.
