Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel kicked off consultations in coordination with President Michel Suleiman to discuss the possibility of forming a new cabinet, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the daily, Gemayel is seeking consensus among Lebanese foes to form a new government.

Lebanon plunged in a political crisis on October 19 when Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch chief Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan was assassinated.

Sources said that Suleiman will call for participants in the national dialogue to attend a new round of sessions if Gemayel's consultations were successful.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat also recently proposed an initiative to end the crisis between the rival March 14 and March 8 coalitions.

The March 14 opposition boycotted all political activity with the March 8 alliance following the assassination of al-Hasan in a car bomb explosion in Beirut's Ashrafiyeh district after it blamed the government of covering up the killing.

The opposition rejects attending any national dialogue session before Prime Minister Najib Miqati's cabinet steps down and a new neutral government is formed.

The last dialogue session was held on September 20.

Safadi has been making sounds and appears to be maneuvering for the PM post. With Miqati's clique parting company with him there maybe a chance that M8 will loose majority. If that happens then a new cabinet might be possible otherwise back to square one to try again.

No more offering M8 our hand only to have them break it.

Yalla... Amin keep kissing rear ends so you can stay in the limelight and keep your futile attempts to be a leader of the Lebanese Christians... Others tried and failed... Trying to steal the leadership from Samir Geagea is what you keep trying to do and alienate M14... fat chance loser... and Judas... Sleiman can't do a thing to solve the crisis and neither can you... The M14 is way ahead of you... go sit next to Frangieh and Aoun...

This is probably the stupidest political analysis I have heard for a long time.

I agree with you. Gemayel is the most experienced, and in my opinion wisest politician out there.

hariri wants a war with syria because they killed his dad, and nasrallah wants a war with israel because they killed his son.
I didnt like Amine in the past. But his recent actions make him a statesman. Both his brohter and his son were killed, and yet, he speaks peace. These are the marks of a statesman.
