A plane carrying 151 people from Geneva to Edinburgh was forced to make an emergency landing in London after an oil leak forced its pilot to shut down an engine, budget airline easyJet said Tuesday.

The easyJet Airbus A319 carrying 145 passengers and six crew landed at Luton airport near the British capital as a precaution around 2pm (14:00 GMT) on Monday, a spokeswoman said.

She said: "easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6908 flying from Geneva to Edinburgh diverted to London Luton Airport due to a technical issue.

"The captain took the decision to divert as a precaution only. The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority."

The passengers were transferred onto a different plane to fly to Edinburgh.
