General Prosecutor Judge Hatem Madi confirmed on Thursday that he was handed over the audio recordings that al-Mustaqbal MP Oqab Saqr revealed during a press conference to deny he was carrying out arms deals with the Free Syrian Army.

“We will analyze the content of these recordings and study if they include a penal offense,” Madi said in comments published in al-Joumhouria news paper.

The judge pointed out that it's up to him to decide whether to prosecute Saqr or not.

Saqr held a press conference in Turkey in December challenging the Syrian government and his Lebanese foes to prove that he was indeed providing rebels with weapons.

OTV and al-Akhbar newspaper, both close to the Hizbullah-led March 8 majority coalition, broadcast and printed a three-part series of the recordings in which the lawmaker allegedly discussed arrangements to ship arms supplies to the Syrian opposition.

Madi tasked the Central Criminal Investigations Bureau in December with examining the audio recordings of all the interviews conducted with the MP with various television channels to verify his claims.

Actually we do care. We Lebanese are only good at circulating opinions and judgements with no proofs whatsoever. If Sakr is proofed not guilty than it is a good thing. If not than let justice plays its role.
