"There is no substitute for Hamas as ruler in the strip. The alternative would be the Israeli military and chaos in governance," top-selling Yediot Aharonot quoted Major General Sami Turgeman as telling heads of southern Israel local authorities in the Gaza border area on Monday.

Gaza Truck Driver Hit by Gunfire from Egypt

A Palestinian truck driver in the southern Gaza Strip was seriously wounded on Monday by gunfire from Egypt, medics said.

"A 27-year-old driver who was working at the Kerem Shalom crossing was seriously wounded on Monday morning by shots which were fired from the Egyptian side of the border," health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.

Gaza Teenager Seriously Wounded by Israeli Gunfire

Israeli troops shot and seriously wounded a 17-year-old Palestinian in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday, medics said.

The youth, whose name was not immediately released, was hit in the head north of Beit Lahiya near the border with Israel, Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement.

Jihadist Group Claims Mortar Attack on Hamas in Gaza

A jihadist group that recently emerged in the Gaza Strip claimed Friday a mortar attack on a base belonging to the Islamist Hamas movement in charge of the blockaded territory.

The group calling itself Supporters of the Islamic State in Jerusalem said it fired two 82 mm mortar rounds at a base of Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.
