Lebanese Authorities Discuss with U.N. Official New Border Controls with Syria

The U.N. refugee agency is negotiating with Lebanon over the country's plan to enforce new border controls that could affect the flow of Syrian refugees, a U.N. official said Friday.

"We understand from the government that they are now exerting stricter scrutiny at the border," said Ninette Kelley, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees representative in Beirut.

Report: Hizbullah Wired Money to Bulgaria Bomb Suspects

Hizbullah's armed wing wired almost $100,000 (75,000 euros) to two men wanted over a bomb attack that killed five Israeli tourists in Bulgaria last year, a newspaper report said Friday.

According to the 24 Hours daily, the money was to help organize the blast at Burgas airport on the Black Sea on July 18, 2012, and to carry out reconnaissance in other countries.

Aoun Vows to Challenge Qahwaji Extension Term if Legal Councils 'Still Function'

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun on Friday accused some officials of seeking to extend the term of the army chief while keeping other top posts in the administration vacant, warning his bloc would challenge the extension.

“There is a plot against the cabinet which has the sole authority to propose a bill on the extension” of Gen. Jean Qahwaji's term, which ends this September when he turns 60, Aoun said during a press conference at his residence in Rabieh.

Police: Kidnapped Lebanese Released in Nigeria

A Lebanese national kidnapped by gunmen more than two weeks ago in southern Nigeria was released on Thursday, a police spokesman said.

"He was released this morning in (neighboring) Delta state. He was later brought to us in Benin City. He is in good state of health and he has been handed over to his family," Moses Eguavoen told Agence France Presse.

Arrest Warrant Issued for Jammo's Daughter

The public prosecution on Thursday issued an arrest warrant for the daughter of slain Syrian pro-regime figure Mohammed Darrar Jammo, who was murdered on July 17 in Sarafand, state-run National News Agency reported.

The warrant was issued over Fatima's failure to show up for interrogation after being summoned by the army's intelligence directorate.
