Gadhafi's PM Mahmoudi Arrested in Tunisia

Al-Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi, Libya's former prime minister under Moammar Gadhafi, was arrested in Tunisia and jailed Thursday for six months for illegal entry, a Tunisian justice ministry spokesman told Agence France Presse.

Baghdadi, who was arrested on Wednesday, "appeared before the state prosecutor in Tozeur (430 kilometers south of Tunis) and sentenced to six months in prison with immediate effect," Kadhem Zine el Abidine said.

NATO Says it Can Achieve Libya Mission within 3 Months

NATO can achieve its mission in Libya within the next three months, the commander of the NATO military operation, Lieutenant General Charles Bouchard said Thursday.

Asked for an assessment a day after NATO allies extended their air campaign in Libya by another 90 days, Bouchard said at a press briefing in Brussels: "I'm highly confident we can complete this mission well within this timeframe."

Commander: Advance on Gadhafi Hometown Delayed for Lack of Ammo

Troops advancing on Moammar Gadhafi's hometown Sirte from the east have put off any offensive for a week for lack of ammunition, a brigade commander told Agence France Presse on Thursday.

"Fighting has been stopped for a week. We are facing a shortage of ammunition," said Commander Mustafa bin Dardef of the Zintan Brigade, whose troops are deployed on the front line 25 kilometers (15 miles) east of Sirte.

Gadhafi Forces Shell Oasis, Casualties

Dozens of people were killed and wounded when pro-Gadhafi forces shelled the al-Jufra oasis town of Hun, southwest of Tripoli, witnesses told Agence France Presse in the Libyan capital on Wednesday.

"There are dozens of people killed and wounded in the town and we cannot reach them because of the fierce bombardment," one witness told AFP by telephone.

Anti-Gadhafi Fighters Take a Pounding in Sirte

Anti-Gadhafi fighters on Wednesday admitted heavy losses and hospitals full of wounded from their assault on the deposed Libyan despot's hometown of Sirte, forcing them to send abroad critically hurt troops.

At least 45 National Transitional Council (NTC) fighters have been killed and more than 200 wounded -- mostly by explosions or gunfire -- since they launched an offensive against Sirte last week, medics in Misrata said.

Libya's NTC Claims Control of Key City of Sabha

Libya's new rulers said on Wednesday that their fighters have overrun the key southern city of Sabha, one of the last strongholds of forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi.

"We are in complete control of the city of Sabha. Everybody, including (those who were) pro-Gadhafi, are now with the revolution," Abdelmajid Seif Ennasr, an official for the National Transitional Council in Sabha, told Agence France Presse.

Sudan Army 'Attacks Rebels' on Darfur-Libya Border

The Sudanese army has attacked a heavily armed convoy of Darfur rebels near the war-torn region's border with Libya, killing one and seizing a truck load of weapons, the army spokesman said on Tuesday.

"Yesterday (Monday), when the Sudanese armed forces tried to close the border, where Sudan, Libya and Chad meet, clashes erupted with a small group from the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM)," Sawarmi Khaled Saad told Agence France Presse.

Sarkozy Says Gadhafi Will be Tried

French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday urged the Libyan people who have been fighting a bitter conflict against Moammar Gadhafi to "have the courage to forgive."

He told a meeting at the United Nations on Libya, attended by the country's transitional leaders, that Kadhafi would eventually be tried once the fighting had stopped.

25,000 Dead in Libyan Revolution, Jalil Tells U.N. Summit

At least 25,000 people died in the uprising against Libya's strongman Moammar Gadhafi and 50,000 more were wounded, the country's interim leader told a U.N. summit Tuesday.

National Transitional Council chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil thanked the international community for their help in the months-long Libyan revolution, and while he told the summit that Gadhafi's regime members would face justice, he vowed that they would get "a fair trial."
