Army chief General Jean Qahwaji is scheduled to travel to Russia soon to discuss ways that Moscow can provide the Lebanese army with military aid, news reports said on Wednesday.

Qahwaji aims to diversify the sources of military weapons provided to Lebanon within the $500 million quota allocated to the army and as part of the one billion Saudi grant in that regard, As Safir daily reported.

The Saudi prince who fell victim to a spectacular armed raid in Paris, losing 250,000 euros in the process, was the youngest son of the former King Fahd with something of a globetrotting playboy reputation, it emerged Tuesday.

A Saudi national convicted of murder was decapitated by the sword in the southwest of the Gulf kingdom on Tuesday, the interior ministry said.

Four Saudi men were decapitated by the sword in Najran in the southwest of the Gulf kingdom on Monday after being convicted of drug trafficking, the interior ministry said.

Brothers Hadi and Awad al-Motleq and their accomplices Mufarraj and Ali al-Yami were found to have smuggled "a large quantity of hashish" into the country, the ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

Kalashnikov-wielding robbers have attacked the motorcade of a Saudi prince in Paris, making off with 250,000 euros ($335,000) in cash and reportedly stealing "sensitive" documents, French police said Monday.

The spectacular robbery took place in northern Paris late on Sunday as the motorcade was making its way from a plush hotel on the Champs Elysees to an airport in Le Bourget, said police, who confirmed there were no injuries.

Two Saudi men were decapitated by sword on Sunday for separate murder charges, the interior ministry said.

Yussef al-Nafii, executed in the western city of Taif, had been convicted of shooting fellow Saudi Salman al-Rabii dead after a dispute, the ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri stressed om Sunday that Lebanon's stability and security “should be a red line,” reported Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3).

He told the radio: “We will not allow the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or any other group to impose itself on decisions in Lebanon.”

French authorities are seeking to provide the Lebanese army with used weapons under a $3 billion deal financed by Saudi Arabia, the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper reported on Saturday.

According to the daily, Paris claims that the arms demanded by Lebanese military experts provoke Israel but the actual reason behind the delay in delivering the weapons is because Lebanon refuses to be granted used military equipment.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam said on Friday that the large influx of Syrian refugees to the northeastern town of Arsal had a negative impact on the village.

“Some refugees exploited the hospitality of the residents of Arsal and had a plan to create chaos in it,” Salam said after meeting a delegation from the northeastern town.

Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri stressed that the critical conditions in the region and Lebanon compelled him to extend his stay in Beirut.

“King Abdullah is keen to provide Lebanon with the needed support amid the delicate developments,” Asiri told al-Liwaa newspaper published on Friday.
