If you do this, and if you have any measure of success, you'll be a hero.

he seems like a top man, rational of kinds. If he was able to negotiate with syrian authorities regarding the previous success for the nation, he can do this too. I share your opinion as well, our men in syrian prison of very low standards need to come back home, and if he thinks he can do the job, even if it covers hundreds(as opposed to possibly thousands), i and the country will be grateful regardless. Here's hoping it will materialize.

" Ibrahim said his mission lied in implementing the orders........." I don't think so. The word is "lay". Editing is very important for a news outlet.

Aoun is probably right about that one. I didnt read that Maj.Gen Abbas Ibrahim said anything about people being in jail, did you? He said that he would find a closure to their fate in Syria. The missing persons most likely were killed and buried in Syria.

General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim has revealed that he would seek to reopen the file of Lebanese held in Syrian jails

By him giving up on the issue he left it at that. So cut your own stupidity by coming up with excuses for him. He is a politician (supposedly) he does not give up on a cause (haha kind of an irony for Aoun) just because Assad said so. And he has said on MANY occasions after repeating what Assad said that there are no more political prisoners in Syria. Now go shine his boots.

"held"= past tense of the verb "to hold". Maj Gen doesnt say that there are people from the civil war era still being held. We can only hope, in the say way that some americans still cling to the dream of US troops still being held in Vietnam..

so you are trying to tell me that of the thousands of 20-30 year olds that were taken prisoner in 1991 and earlier, that NONE are still alive? are you serious??
but I digress, let us assume that ALL of them are dead.. what closure is he going to give to their families? oh X was executed..so was Y.. and Z.. and AFY was as well? now excuse us while we go and call the Syrian govt a brotherly govt... that's closure right there..

Thumb arzak-ya-libnan 19:14 ,2013

Held can represent current holding. As in being held captive now.

Thumb arzak-ya-libnan 14:49 ,2013

unfortunately my brother.. don't hold your breath... nobody is seriously trying to work for any Lebanese anywhere let alone one rotting in a Syrian jail... it's a pity that the majority of the prisoners are Christian member who were either loyal to Aoun or Geagea,, and one has sold them off while the other doesn't move a finger for them...

Cheers phoenix, your reaction shows (once again) that you're for real.

granted, a promise is a promise, not worth much until it is achieved. but those who really are in good faith and truly hope for an improvement in that case will welcome a promise to work on it.

those who criticize it are just hypocrites who dont care about the missing people. for them it's just a pretext like another to justify their hate and daily cursings. if ibrahim achieves any result they will have less stones to throw and will be frustrated.

Phoenix. You have a pro Hezbollah government character talking about the subject... This is a big big change. Hopefully something will move in this sore file.

didn't aoun have the indecency of telling the mothers of the disappeared lebanese to forget about them and turn the page?
