if saqqal intercepted the MP's convoy, of course the bodyguards are going to react, it's their job. since when can anyone intercept a political convoy (anywhere in the world for that matter) and then whine because he got kicked out of the way?

phoenix, what you say about hardan and syria is also valid for hariri and saudi, and at least hardan doesnt operate under hypocrite auspices. they see lebanon and syria as one people, one country. i do not agree with that but it is their vision, their opinion and they speak it and defend it openly. in any case, we have much more in common with syria, historically and culturally, than we have with saudi.
if we're in a democracy, we're bound to be faced with people who have views we dont agree with, it doesnt mean we should so hatefully disrespect each other and call others animal names.

now about the incident itself, if you read my comment you'll see i specifically said "IF saqqal intercepted the convoy" then the bodyguards, like any bodyguards would have done their job by kicking him out of the way. maybe he is a SSNP hater (like some here) and decided to take it out on the convoy, which would have not been the smartest move.
now there's always other likely scenarios, and as indicated by my "IF" i'm not rejecting their possibility.
you however, by automatically throwing the blame on hardan because you dont like him are the one reacting in knee-jerk hate reactions that are all but objective or rational. look at geha for instance, this was simply a pretext for him to express his hopes for some massacres. ("SSNP should be eradicated from the face of the earth.")

Mowaten, now that the situation has been clarified further by the media and contrary to what Naharnet disseminated, the unfortunate man did not intercept Hardan's convoy but simply photographed it. Does that deserves him to be beaten up? I believe not. His guards could have simply arrested him and handed him over to the official authorities for further investigations, that's how things should be done under the law. The sad thing in this country of ours, many are those who flaunt the law, in this case Hardan did the worst.

(2). Mowaten. Then I am mighty glad of your disagreement with the SSNP's view with Syria, hell no, we ain't one people with Syrians and certainly less of the same country, just how many people died fighting this sickness? Yes, I am for a greater Lebanon, sure, I have no problem with the thought of invading other lands to expand my country Lebanon, but to get it absorbed by another, hell NO. Thanks God, not only greater Syria is dead for good but even Syria itself is going for good, and from me NO regrets either, let Syria just become what it wanted for us Lebanese, small mini states. indeed the report changed since we first commented, and things make a bit more sense now.
still lots of things not clear. why was he following the convoy and filming it? why was he unable to give an explanation when asked by the bodyguards? could he have had an ulterior motive?

i'm sure you can easily understand why hardan would be a prime target for nusra/da3esh for instance, and surveillance is always the first step before an attack. i'm also sure you can easily imagine the state of mind and level of stress for the bodyguards, when they know they can be attacked or targetted by a car bomb at any second.

now maybe saqqal is just an "unfortunate man" as you said, but just as well, maybe he is part of something less innocent... we dont know.

i cant and wont judge because i dont know enough, and one would need to have been there to know how exactly it happened. if they really beat him as he claims, and if it was without any justification, i'd be on his side. but nothing at this point can confirm that.

and finally i'm just as opposed as you are to being absorbed by any country. but wouldn't want to conquer our neighbors either. i'm more for a consensual union of all arabs. enough of killing each other, enough of being at war with one another, it only makes our lives miserable and keep us as weak pawns to be played by foreign powers. imagine how powerful we would have been if we had been united... we would have never fallen to be this sad and pathetic sight we are today.
