Lebanese doctor Gabriel Gharib has been chosen as the best cardiologist in France, the state-run National News Agency announced on Saturday.

“Gharib was chosen as the best cardiologist among 200,000 doctors in the country,” French magazine Capital revealed in its October 2013 issue after conducting a thorough investigation.

The NNA detailed that the scientific investigation took about a year to be completed and during which, the opinions of 150 professionals, among them 100 doctors, were taken into consideration about the expertise in the medical field in France.

It continued: “In the first stage, 900 out of 200,000 doctors were qualified. Then the number of candidates was reduced to 150.”

What made Gharib stand out was his achievement of being able to conduct a coronary artery bypass operation without resorting to medical hypnosis, the same source added.

Ghareeb, 56, hails from the Beirut neighborhood of Rmeil.

He settled in the French city of Bordeaux in 1975, and graduated with a medical degree in 1982.

He worked in General Medicine in several French and Parisian hospitals before specializing in Cardiology.

See the potential the Lebanese hold? Give yourself and each other a break and who knows what you can achieve.

Definitely a piece of good news. Odd how most Lebanese do magnitudes better outside (even in regards to competition with the other folk from other nationalities (e.g. this article)) than in Lebanon.

Odd? No, but sad!

My friend Jeez once said « nul n'est prophète en son pays ».

He is a Cardiac Surgeon not a Cardiologist, there is a big difference between the two, and what you referred to as medical hypnosis is called "Anesthesia", even lay people do not use the term "medical hypnosis". Moreover, he was not chosen because he does an awake coronary bypass, this was pioneered by an Indian cardiac surgeon called Vivek Jawali. He was chosen based on academic record, exceptional surgical skills and surgical results.
Sorry that i had to correct, but i really felt this article is directed towards a 7th grade child.

There are 2 gharib. The activist and the cardiologist.

Seriously????? Lebanese tops as first and all he gets is a mention and any politician makes a statement he is covered all over the news......maybe our politicians should replaced by cardiologists...

With all due respects to a very talented cardiologist, I can't quite understand why there is such a reaction in Lebanon to a citizen of the country, who deserted it 37 years ago.

Your name reveals exactly what you are.
There is the saying "It takes one to know one", so if you "talk to
idiots".....then you.
Why is it that when you disagree with someone, he must be an Israeli and/or a Zionist? Can't people have differences of opinion without you insulting them?

Where is the link to the article or is this another fabrication from an-Nahar? And why a magazine dedicated to economic issues writes about cardiology? PLus, this item means nothing.

indeed , Dr. Ghrayib is not the only lebanese who achieves :
-William Zobgy heads the heart surgeons in USA
-5 lebanese are listed in top 100 most creative people in the world 2013 ( Aya Bdeir -Caroline Ghosn- Anthony Matta - Anthony Fadel - Callie Khoury )

-lebanese are presidents, vice presidents , deans and professors in all top 200 best universities in the world

20 million lebanese ( resident and emigrants ) have given 90 times more achievments to the world than the rest of 360 million arabs ( even though we don't consider ourselves arabs NOT IN GENES NOR IN LIFESTYLE ) who hate lebanese and always plot against us

There is no such historical country called lebanon, and the phoenicians died out long ago. Lebanese are just Syrian arabs.

Why do you say that - even in the Bible there is mention of the Cedars of LEBANON.
