President Michel Suleiman hoped on Tuesday that Christmas will bring with it the spirit of love and hope in Lebanon.

He wished that this spirit will help Lebanon “overcome its political and humanitarian crises.”

“We hope the birth of Christ will represent an occasion for officials and the people to become aware of the situation in Lebanon and therefore cooperate to improve it through dialogue and respecting the other,” he added.

He also urged military and security officials to intensify their measures during the holidays in order to grant the people peace of mind.

Suleiman later received a cable from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani who congratulated him on the advent of the holidays.

He hoped that the “new year will witness joint efforts aimed at emphasizing peace, stability, and security in the world.”
