Forensic Report Confirms Al-Majed Died of Illness, His Body to Be Repatriated 'within Hours'

Acting State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud announced on Thursday that the report of the forensic panel has confirmed that Majed al-Majed had died of illness.

"The panel's report confirmed the first conclusion reached by the forensic doctor,” Hammoud told the state-run National News Agency, noting that the general prosecution will officially receive the new report on Friday morning.

He added: “The detailed report confirmed that al-Majed has died of illness and medical complications.”

The judge noted that the body of the “emir” of the al-Qaida-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades will be handed over to his family “once the required legal procedures are completed.”

“We have received an official request from his brother to repatriate al-Majed's body,” Hammoud said.

Meanwhile, MTV reported that the body will be handed over to Saudi Arabia “within hours.”

Hammoud received on Tuesday a request from the Saudi Embassy, saying the brother of the al-Qaida-linked group leader wants to repatriate his body.

Al-Majed, a Saudi national, died in Lebanon on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the central military hospital after his health deteriorated, the army said in a communique.

However, many media reports doubted the military institution's statement, requesting instead the examination of his body by several forensic doctors.

Al-Majed is accused of being behind the suicide bombing that targeted the Iranian embassy in Beirut on November 19, 2013, and he was detained in December of the same year and had been held at a secret location.

He was the purported commander of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades — a militant group with al-Qaida links — and one of the 85 most-wanted individuals in Saudi Arabia.

I laud u anonymousTexas. Keep in mind they (if it's not a him w/ multiple aliases) don't support the army. They don't want a strong army to defend Lebanon against Israel and syria. They'll keep discrediting it in order 2 keep hizballa's terrorist weapons.

welcome my friend. Granted our army is not exactly well equipped, thus the KSA $3B is most welcome, but in light of the huge difficulties it is facing I can only praise this army.
they have to face takfiris. They have to face pro Syrians. They have to face suicide bombers. They have to face Israel and other troubles. I think this army has a lot on its plate
God help our army and we all need to keep exhibiting our support if anything it ups their morale besides it is the only unifying force in the country

In fact I am neither M8 or M14 as I think both factions are taking the country down. Polarized to the max I am simply a true Lebanese. Although I live in the US I love Lebanon and want to see it living at peace harmoniously and prosperous

Why does the Army have to be accused wholesale of foul play? There are rotten apples in the Army like any other organisation, that doesn't make the Army rotten.
I happen to find the man's death suspiciously convenient at this point in time. No proof and no accusation, just the guessing of a seasoned Lebanese person who knows how accounts are sometimes settled in this country. Please remember that Lebanese institutions are thoroughly infiltrated by agents from both sides the conflict, being Syrian, Saudi, Israeli or whoever has an interest in the affairs of this country. There has been ample evidence of this.

I don't really appreciate people hitting the "report" button because they don't agree with a poster. On the other hand, if the post contains personal attacks and insults to the poster, then reporting is warranted.
FT, you are being baited all the time and I've seen you sometimes lose your cool and take the bait. My modest advice is this: when they insult you personally (traitor, stupid and so forth), don't reply: Hit the report button.
I wish we could come to a gentleman's agreement on this site to attack the ISSUES and not the PERSONS supporting them.
In conclusion, and although you and I don't always agree on politics, I value your opinion here. An I hope that Naharnet would take a holistic view of its banning policies, in the interest of democracy and the unfettered exchange of ideas in Lebanon.
