Suleiman: Shelling of Lebanese Border Towns Attempt to Drag Country to Syrian Crisis

President Michel Suleiman condemned on Saturday the latest shelling of Lebanese towns bordering Syria in the Bekaa region.
He said: “The shelling is an attempt to drag Lebanon towards the Syrian crisis.”
“It is unacceptable for innocent Lebanese people to pay the price for these attempts,” he stressed.
The president therefore called on all sides within Syria to refrain from targeting Lebanese territories “under any excuse.”
In addition, Suleiman called on all Lebanese powers against getting involved in the Syrian crisis and to respect the Baabda Declaration.
On Friday, several rockets fired from the Syrian side of the border landed on the town of Brital in the Bekaa Valley.
One of them caused material damage after hitting the house of a soldier.
Lebanese border towns in the Bekaa have frequently come under Syrian shelling since the eruption of the uprising in the neighboring country and since Hizbullah acknowledged that it had sent fighters to Syria to fight alongside the ruling regime.

i agree that neither the syrian army nor the syrian rebels should shell lebanon, that is a given.
but strikes on the border no-man's-land around arsal are hardly an attempt "to drag Lebanon towards the Syrian crisis", they are a consequence of rebels operating from arsal and fighting on the border. what are syrian troops supposed to do, when they get fired on from a hilltop that happens to be on the other side of the border? lay down and die?

to follow your parallel with israel, first you should take foreign fighters, because no lebanese was apparently involved or hit in arsal. take palestinians for instance, if they were attacking israeli troops on the border, would you condemn israel for hitting back? i bet you'd be the first one to clap your hands and cheer at your friends. i personnally would hope they kill as many israeli troops as possible, but i couldnt objectively condemn israelis for hitting back >> as long as they dont hit lebanese civilians or any civilians, like they always do with their "collective punishment" fetish.

the lebanese army is allowed everywhere in lebanon, from north to south and east to west. the only ones who disagree with that and are fighting the army are your friends in saida, arsal and tripoli.

Arsalis have been asking for months the LAF to protect them and control ALL the border by blocking ALL lebanese fighters.
But arsalis wont accept army doing Bashar/HA's job.

ridiculous! even if we believe your BS propaganda it does not justify the gruesome killing of lebanese soldiers. and you just confirmed that they are with syrian rebels against the lebanese army.
just in case anyone has a doubt: the army unit was on the way to arrest the syrian and was ambushed before it even reached there. (i guess cedre must have read in a coffee cup that they were coming to "execute" him, but all sane people know the army never did that).
the bodies of the soldiers were butchered and their genital parts removed by a hysterical crowd of arsal residents, under the patronage of the mayor, who was filmed yelling that one of the wounded was still alive, and he wanted him taken off the back of the truck.
he later claimed he only wanted him taken off the truck to give him medical care (yea right, with a horde of hysterical people around and no medical equipment, when he could have simply driven the truck to a hospital). disgusting people.
