Bassil Denounces Israeli Offensive against Gaza, Demands Arab Action

Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil condemned the Israeli aggression against the Gaza strip, demanding the Arabs to take a “unified” stance to end the Israeli hostility.

“Israel is benefiting from the international silence and the Arab incompetency by continuing and increasing its attack,” Bassil warned.

With the Israeli campaign in its seventh day, at least 172 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,230 wounded.

Bassil's statement came in light of a series of phone calls the minister carried out with Arab foreign ministers and Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi.

“The verbal condemnation is no longer enough as the serious situation requires actual measures by the Arab League to support the Palestinian people and to press the international community to end its support to Israel.”

Bassil tasked Lebanon's permanent ambassador to the Arab League Khaled Ziadeh with attending a meeting for the Arab League foreign ministers instead of him.

The minister is currently in Brazil and will not make it in time for the meeting, which will be held later Monday.

The Arab League meeting comes amid intense international efforts to end the conflict, and with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas seeking U.N. intervention.

A loser in Lebanon can easily get to high places; you just need to marry someone's daughter! I blame voters in Lebanon for electing the same gangsters time and again

He must be really looking after you and your family FT, helping subsidize their tuition fees, their needs and securing good future. Sure he and all other current politicians have lined up their pockets and their friends and the people from both camps are competing who is right and who is wrong; the security situation is hush but who cares.... your loved politician is OK....... As far as I am concerned, he is a total loser and I will never ever hire him as a junior in my company nor should the Lebanese people

Peace

flamethrower; Bassil himself mentioned he was on an official visit meeting with the Lebanese expats in Brazil. He has been there for almost one week. You think he went there on his account. Grow up and stop defending the indefensible.

When did the Arab league helped us over the past decade. Yes after mass destruction then they do wake up. Anyway i don't believe that still this league exist, it is dead. Mr Bassil we need to be like the Swiss, disassociation from earth as agreed in previous gov..

Bigjohn: How come a country which occupies 0.14% of entire Arabian nation can be called Monster? well Israel should take lesson from the loving Arabs. How many been killed last week ? Muslims by Muslims.
And how come that in the Apartheid state there are Arabs in the Knesset, Judges in the court, Arabian doctors in hospitals and clinics , lawyers and engineers. Lets take Lebanon as liberal state.
How many Palestinians are in key people in Lebanon and why they are kept in camps for over 65 years?
