Aoun Meets Berri, Mufti Daryan, Urges Calm Political Practices during Current Phase

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun noted on Tuesday that differences are a normal part of political life, stressing that he seeks national unity among Lebanese factions.

He said: “The differences are normal part of politics, which should be practiced calmly during this phase.”

He made his remarks after holding separate talks with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan and later Speaker Nabih Berri.

“We should overcome this phase with the least amount of damage and begin a new one characterized by national unity,” he added to reporters after the meeting the mufti at Dar al-Fatwa's headquarters in Beirut.

“We hope peace would prevail throughout Lebanon and the region,” he stated.

“Our ties with Dar al-Fatwa will not take a step back regardless of attempts to sabotage this relationship,” he continued.

Asked about the weekend's unrest in the northern city of Tripoli, the MP responded: “I believe that the crisis is over.”

He warned however of the existence of sleeper terrorist cells in other regions, such as Mhammara in the North, that may cause unrest in the future.

“Lebanon is affected by regional developments and we hope that the negative repercussions witnessed over the weekend will not happen again,” Aoun stated.

Moreover, he revealed that he was in contact with head of the Mustaqbal Movement MP Saad Hariri, saying that he recently received an verbal message from him.

He did not elaborate on the details of this message.

After meeting Berri, Aoun reiterated his opposition to extending the term of parliament.

He added however: "The parliamentary elections will not be held, but the extension will take place."

He also noted that the current conditions are not suitable to elect a new president.

Tripoli witnessed over the weekend clashes between the army and gunmen.

Several soldiers, gunmen, and civilians were killed in the unrest that erupted on Friday and lasted three days.

The army has since deployed in the city in order to detain fugitive gunmen.

Very recently, a beautiful Lebanese actress said on TV something that I liked a lot, that we definitely don't have anyone complete politician, they all have some good points just as they do have bad points. But to focus on Aoun, I cannot but be of extreme criticism towards him, for if and when I look at his behavioral pattern, the man is self-contradictory in every sense of the word. Now he says something only to recant a few minutes later. he has beaten Jumblat at his own game. Eery time people agree with a thing Aoun says, within a short time Aoun disproves himself. To the best of my opinion, Aoun is what the French would term as, ARRIVISTE, in every sense of the word.

“The differences are normal part of politics, which should be practiced calmly during this phase.”

well, you don't write one way tickets to your political opponents and threaten their lives. These behaviors are not normal part of politics.

PM Saad Harriri spent more than 2/3rds of his time as prime minister outside of Lebanon! This was the point.

kindly show us when did aoun threaten the life of his opponents.

Looooooooooooooool that's why he said he can guarantee Hariri's "political security" if he's elected but he can't if he's not elected. In other words, he knows who's killing March 14 figures and can simply stop them with his word. That's blackmail, only thing is that it isn't over money, it's over the presidency.

Thumb the_roar 28 October 2014, 19:54

Time for Naharnet to only allow registered names to be able to post.

also a registered email account must be used..

until then this site has gone to the pits with iceman & his cronies spamming all day everyday.

Thumb liberty 28 October 2014, 20:03

the security night guard is back. So all those accounts above are for ice-man? LOL. Everybody knows it is you and your twin making up all this spam.

Default-user-icon megahabib (Guest) 28 October 2014, 20:09

roro, did you have to write 100 emails to naharnet to beg them to allow you to come back? lol

Thumb the_roar 28 October 2014, 20:13

I very much like Naharnet...my problem isn't with Naharnet.

Its with losers like you who have hijacked it & turned it into a grubby spamathon ...now get back to stealing names under guest & continue posting all day everyday.

Default-user-icon loser (Guest) 28 October 2014, 20:14

did you have to beg and say 1000 times I am sorry to be allowed to post again?

Thumb the_roar 28 October 2014, 20:25

Glad you find me worthy that you would take the time out of your meaningful life to go out of your way just for me.

have a nice day & try not to waste all your time worrying about me or FT...One day we might notice you...doubtful but never say never huh

Thumb galaxy 29 October 2014, 11:13

we all know you are very clever and always post top rated comments

Thumb nickjames 30 October 2014, 07:37

As much as I dislike Roar's views, he's spot on. This site has been hijacked by a small circle of people. Someone posting a cursing frenzy once in a while is funny, but 10 consecutive posts of impostors cursing everyone out is annoying. The forum needs to be moderated

Thumb EagleDawn 30 October 2014, 10:12

are you naive or what? It is roar and flamethrower doing this.
