Salam, Jumblat Praise Abou Faour's Food Safety Battle

Prime Minister Tammam Salam lauded on Wednesday the efforts exerted by Health Minister Wael Abou to reveal spoiled food after Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat gave him his complete coverup.
Salam encouraged Abou Faour to continue his precautionary measures and demanded him to firmly deal with the matter and violators.
Salam's statement came during a meeting with Abou Faour at the Grand Serail.
Earlier on Wednesday, Jumblat praised Abou Faour's battle against contaminated food.
“I will continue to offer him my complete coverup,” Jumblat said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.
The Druze leader praised Tuesday's press conference held by Abou Faour, stressing the importance of “going to the end with the case.”
“The health of citizens is in danger,” Jumblat remarked.
Abou Faour raised the alarm on Tuesday over food safety in the country, warning that “the food that the Lebanese are eating is full of diseases.”
Some popular restaurant chains and supermarkets are serving customers food contaminated with bacteria and other inedible substances, the minister said, mentioning other violations involving “the presence of flies on the refrigerators of dairy products, the presence of open garbage bins in kitchens, workers not wearing gloves … and frying oil that was not changed for months.”
Jumblat stressed to As Safir newspaper the importance of integration between all the competent authorities in the battle against corruption, calling on the judiciary to carry out its role in pursuing and punishing offenders.
The PSP chief also demanded Agriculture Minister Akram Shehayeb to reveal the scandals in the sector, noting that some vegetables are being irrigated with sewage water.

I don't mind a druze for president. At least druze are purely Lebanese, they are not a pain in the neck wilayat all fakih or Sunni umma

now that's a good move from abou-faour, but not the first and definitely not an exception. all previous governments whether m8 or m14, have done crackdowns on rotten foodstuff warehouses and the likes.

LF, please, let's not mix issues, Mr. Faour is doing a great job and surely hasn't got the eye on the presidency. He must be highly commended for doing an excellent job, and please no confusion here if I may, the presidency is for the Maronites and it ends there, if you please.

Phoenix. It was a joke. Of course the president is for the christians.
But why not for a catholic or a orthodox? Long gone are the days when the maronite patriarch asked the French colonial powers to give the south and nabatiyeh to great lebanon instead of wedi el nassara in syria, to reduce the number of orthodox.
There is no more animosity between christian sects, and they should be treated as one.

No SF, this Multalati business will spell the end of Lebanon. With all due respects to all, the Shiites and the Sunnis will exterminate each other for the seat, so the best keeper of this post remains the Maronite, period. Some in this country do enjoy airing pranks such as the Mutalati, but in all cases that only reflects either utter selfishness on their part, or plain stupidity knowing of the disastrous consequences this could fuel and bring about. We shall have the president soon, just as Mr. Salam was kept almost eternally so would the president-to-be, soon, when Michel Aoun and his bosses at HA will realize that they are wasting their time with the delay or the hope that Aoun could be sworn in. Tsk.

Good job Mr. Faour, this is what is expected of you anyway. Please, don;t let it stop here, keep following them mafia to the very last one of them, and jail those who break the law. Then don't let be a One-off exercise, let it become a permanent feature of your ministry, the people must be protected at all costs, their health comes first.

Actually FT, the report has brought to the surface many other places that are not in the Metn. Basically I am of the firm belief that the issue is not attached to politics as some may feel but more so to a situation that seems to be getting out of hand, thus the honorable minister Abou Faour ought to be supported in this move.
