Bassil Says Loyalty to Foreign Countries to Drag Lebanon into Conflict

Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil warned on Sunday Lebanese parties from allegiance on foreign powers, considering that it would only destroy the country.

“Any stakes on the outside will not find its way locally... and any party seeking to engage in such an adventure will only attract chaos into Lebanon,” Bassil said as he toured villages in the northern district of Akkar.

Bassil's statement comes days after Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah launched his harshest criticism yet of Saudi Arabia, blaming the kingdom for the spread of extremist ideology in the Muslim world and the killing of civilians in Yemen.

The FM called for the “respect of freedom and believes of others.”

He stressed that any attempts by terrorists to infiltrate Lebanon through its northeastern border will put the country and the whole region at risk.

Bassil, who is loyal to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, called for the election of a new president according to the Constitution.

“We are not concerned about the situation region but Lebanon.”

Vacuum striking the presidential post is having a tough impact on the cabinet and the parliament as the state is threatened with further crises over ongoing rows between the political arch-foes.

MPs failed on several occasions to elect a new head of state over lack of quorum. President Michel Suleiman's term ended in May without the election of a successor.

Hizbullah and Aoun's Change and Reform bloc have been boycotting electoral sessions due to a disagreement with the March 14 camp over a compromise presidential candidate.

the outing of nasrallah supporting the houthis against the saudis showed to everyone the extent of the struggle between iran and ksa. hizbollah legitimacy as a resistance movement in lebanon has shifted to a legitimacy of an iranian outsourced movement of struggle against saudi arabia. that what we have been saying time and time again. Do the christians in lebanon want to take part in the struggle between ksa and iran and risk their very own existence by taking part in a struggle where they will necessary loose.
