Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri stressed on Monday that he will demand Lebanese authorities to clarify a report on an assassination bid targeting him.

He pointed out that he had obtained no information or warnings on such an attempt, but refused to deny the report.

“No smoke without fire,” Asiri said in comments published in al-Liwaa newspaper.

The Saudi diplomat, who is currently in Riyadh, noted that the primary phone calls he made didn't reveal any concrete details about the scheme.

Al-Shiraa magazine reported in its latest issue that Asiri has allegedly been the target of an assassination bid that was foiled by Lebanese security agencies.

According to the magazine, two suspects have been arrested in links with the case.

“A Syrian national and a Palestinian were detained... they confessed to the crime that they were intending to carry out,” the magazine reported.

The report didn't reveal the identities of the culprits, saying “the concerned officials are discreet regarding the matter.”

The magazine added that the army intelligence are pursuing the suspects to avert a scheme to destabilize the country and involve it in the conflicts raging in the region.
