Jumblat Seeks to Contain 'Incitement' after Killing of Druze in Syria

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat has held an emergency meeting for his party's leadership to contain the repercussions of the killing of at least 20 members of Syria's Druze community, al-Mustaqbal daily reported on Friday.

During the meeting that took place on Thursday, Jumblat called for calm to limit attempts to instigate against strife after a press conference that was held by Tawhid movement leader ex-Minsiter Wiam Wahab.

Wahab said: “The faithful Druze from all Lebanese regions are ready to fight.”

“We will all take up arms, here and elsewhere. Anyone on Lebanese soil who has ties to al-Nusra Front or is collaborating with it is unwelcome,” he added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the deaths of the Druze community members came Wednesday in the village of Qalb Lawzah in Idlib province, most of which is now controlled by an alliance including al-Nusra.

Jumblat, who is Lebanon's most influential Druze leader, received on Thursday phone calls from top Lebanese officials condemning the massacre.

On Friday, he will attend an emergency meeting for Lebanon's Druze Spiritual Council to draw up a response to the killings.

He is expected to hold a press conference to announce the outcome of the meeting.

PSP sources told al-Mustaqbal that Jumblat's move is aimed at “confronting attempts by some opportunists to incite the Druze and motivate them to take up arms and avenge the events in Idlib.”

“Such attempts would further drag the Syrian strife to Lebanon and incite the Druze to attack Syrian refugees as a vengeance,” they warned.

What's the matter geha? Do you know how much respect & influence Jumblat lost from his community yesterday? The Druze wants to fight the takfiris with everything they have now, Jumblat can't calm them down any longer. He himself said Nusra were good guys.

what wahab is doing is totally wrong: the druze community should have never supported the syrian regime.
now they are paying the price of listening to people like wahab.

how much Mystic did Junblatt lose respect yesterday?

More Druze from Jumblats camp are now joining Wahhab instead. They realize Jumblats lack of action for the Druze people, also his total misguidance & misinformation towards the takfiris.

Druze are even rushing to join Resistance brigades this minute, they want to cross the borders and defend their people in Syria.

If you are referring to Oqap Sakr, then I can tell you he is a lost cause and a nobody. Majority Lebanese in Lebanon still backs their Resistance.

Not just the Muslim Shi3a, but people now begins to realize that our beloved Resistance is the last hope for Lebabon, our army would've been overrun by ISIS & Nusra without the mouqawama, every realistic person sees this, only the ignorants and jealous persons remains hostile.

this is no resistance: this is an iranian extremist terrorist militia executing the orders of its supreme commander in iran.

Junblatt has been warning the Druze in Syria for more than 2 years to stop their support of the regime. He knows the Druze are surrounded by a sea of Sunnis. He is doing the right thing.

Thumb galaxy 12 June 2015, 09:30

So if a druze gets killed in Syria or anywhere in the world, the Lebanese druze should go fight and avenge him otherwise they are labeled as traitors. Similarly a Shia should go fight and avenge the death of any Shias. But, a Sunni going to fight in Syria in support of his sect is a terrorist yes?
Typical hezbollah logic. The bottom line is NO one should go fight anywhere! End of Story!

God bless those true Druze that can't be bought to allow themselves massacred. Jumblat is losing his grip, the people wants to resist the takfiris now.
