U.S. Blacklists Alleged Hizbullah Financier Charara

W460

The United States named an alleged financier of the Hizbullah to its sanctions blacklist Thursday in a mounting effort to crack down on the group's financial resources.

The U.S. Treasury said Ali Youssef Charara and his Beirut-based telecommunications company Spectrum Investment Group Holding have received millions of dollars from Hizbullah to invest in commercial projects.

The sanctions freeze any assets of Charara and Spectrum under U.S. jurisdiction and forbid Americans from doing business with them.

It was the first such move since President Barack Obama signed a new law in December making it easier to target Hizbullah's finances.

The United States has officially labeled Hizbullah a terrorist group and has already taken actions against its business network, which spans to West Africa, where Charara has interests in the telecommunications sector, the Treasury said.

HA and Amal liquidated Palestinians as well. Houthis with Iranian help killed 1000s of Yemeni Civilians long before KSA intervened to restore their rights. HA money is dirty long before thepatriot commented above (kidnapping ransome, auto theft, drugs, etc.)

before you jump to accusations, did you do your due diligence in 3 minutes since the article was published and determined that your Mr. Charara is a "decent Lebanese Businessman"? What do you know about Chrara before you heard his name in this article, his business or his dealings? Or the fact that he is shia like you automatically qualifies him for sainthood?!

So basically, it is a jerk knee reaction in defence of a militia that is enabling the worst dictator in the Arab world and a man with the blood of untold number of people on his hand. And the fact that you defend him says much about you and your moral bankruptcy.

Tric ... Get back on your meds please. There are hundreds of thousands of Shia in the US and they live like any other citizen. So no, the target are not Shia. Indeed, a typical Sunni who profess sympathy to Nusra would be interrogated and may be prosecuted. I have friends in Canada who are vocal in their support of the Hizb and they go to the US unmolested. On the other hand, I promote democracy, pluralism and human rights among Arabs. I even have a newspaper titled ArabDermocrat .... Yet every time I went to the US during the Bush years, I had to do extraordinary registration on the way in and out.
