Venezuela Lawmakers Suspend Maduro 'Trial' ahead of Talks

Opposition lawmakers suspended a "trial" of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday, ahead of talks with the government next week aimed at easing their country's deep political and economic crisis.

The speaker of the opposition-dominated National Assembly, Henry Ramos Allup, said the chamber's decision to put off the proceedings was not a "capitulation" but a desire to find a solution to the crisis.

Analysts had said the "trial" of Maduro by the lawmakers would have been largely symbolic, as the constitution does not allow for such a process against the president.

Maduro himself had dismissed the effort as invalid and an attempt to overthrow his government.
