I have the utmost respect for general aoun who is now president for preparing to kickstart a trip that will involve the Vatican and Kuwait to give his latest trip an East-West flavor and to add to his mounting Frequent Flyer Miles.

Aoun is expected to recommend to the Pope that he adopt for Italy the tested solution to political instability enshrined in Lebanon's Article 24: half of the seats in the Italian Parliament should be filled by Christians. How they are selected, and how the other half of the Parliament is filled, can be left up to the normal political process.
La Traviata, the Italian daily with deep contacts in the Vatican, reports that the Pope's initial reaction to Aoun's proposed query was, "Oh, I don't think we could find enough Christians!"
