Mitchell Moses on Sunday spearheaded Lebanon to its first-ever Rugby League World Cup victory as it defeated France 29-18 in Canberra.

The Parramatta Eels playmaker was at the heart of Lebanon’s attack as he scored a try, set up another two and landed a drop goal.

The victory puts Lebanon in prime position to progress from Group A along with co-hosts Australia and England to the quarter-finals.

Three teams from each of Group A (Australia, England, France, Lebanon) and Group B (New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland and Tonga) will advance to the quarterfinals along with the winning teams from Group C (Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Wales) and Group D (Fiji, United States, Italy).
