Man Jailed for Contacting Adraee, Israeli Officer on Facebook

The Military Court on Friday sentenced the defendant Mustafa D. to one year in prison on charges of communicating with Israeli army Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee and an Israeli female officer, the National News Agency said.

“The convict had offered via the Facebook application to provide Adraee and the Israeli officer with security information about Lebanon, expressing his admiration of the state of Israel,” NNA said.

“His offer was however declined,” the agency added.

Israel occupied parts of Lebanon for 22 years until the year 2000, when it withdrew amid Hizbullah-led guerrilla attacks.

Lebanon and Israel are still technically at war but the border has remained relatively calm in recent years following a 2006 war between Israel and Hizbullah that left around 1,200 people dead in Lebanon and caused massive destruction.

shame on this military court; Clemenceau has once said that: "Il suffit d'ajouter «militaire» à un mot pour lui faire perdre sa signification. Ainsi la justice militaire n'est pas la justice, la musique militaire n'est pas la musique".

Admiration for Israel is an evidence when we look at all the achievements done by this country. What have got here instead. Corrupted institutions everwhere, from the justice, to military, etc...

this guy has the liberty to communicate with whom ever. He can only be judged and jailed if it can be proven that he has caused a prejudice to his country. What is an evidence from this military court is that it does not respect the basic human rights. It is time the military court be eliminated from this country. There are no reason what so ever to keep this court in the presence of civil courts and when this country is not in a state of war.

Some Lebanese still think about Lebanon as Switzerland of the Middle East, but in fact Lebanon is worst than Iran or Saudi Arabia in terms of freedom of speech ! Such a ruling (one year in prison) for talking to an Israeli on Facebook would never happen in any Arab country.

If you kill the Lebanese Prime Minister or if you support Iranian occupation, you are not in trouble at all with Lebanese justice. Lebanon is totally corrupted, but if you acknowledge so, you go to jail.

He is a hero because he acts for Lebanon interest, which is to stop war with Israel. Lebanese and Israelis are the closest people in the Middle East, that's why those who don't want Lebanon to be a blossoming country do everything to prevent Lebanese-Israeli normalization and peaceful relationships.

Please remember a simple fact.
Peace only comes about when you talk with your "enemy" not with your "friend".
Sentencing this person to jail can only mean that the Lebanese judiciary is in favour of keeping the country in a permanent state of war.
