UNIFIL Urges Ceasefire, Says in Contact with Lebanon, Israel

UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col is in direct contact with the parties over Friday’s hostilities on the Lebanese-Israeli border, UNIFIL said.

“He calls on everyone to immediately cease fire,” UNIFIL said in a statement, adding that “this is a very dangerous situation, with escalatory actions seen on both sides over the past two days.”

UNIFIL is “actively engaging with the parties through all formal and informal liaison and coordination mechanisms to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control,” the U.N. force added.

“We are coordinating with the Lebanese Armed Forces to strengthen security measures throughout the area of operations,” it said, calling on the parties to “cease fire and maintain calm” so that the U.N. force “can begin an investigation.”

What exactly is the use of UNIFIL if they were kilometers away from the area where the missiles were fired from. They can't even enter the eastern part of the border area where everyone, including themselves, are allowing the Government of Lebanon and the LAF to ignore Resolution 1701 and allow the armed Hizballah terrorists to establish themselves on the border and not north of the Litani as the Resolution demands.

If Israel is bombing the eastern part of the border area then UNIFIL should be ignoring it and saying Israel is in compliance with 1701. So all is good.
