Jumblat says 1701 proper implementation can stop 'further escalation'

Former Progressive Socialist Party leader ex-MP Walid Jumblat on Thursday said that the proper implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006) would prevent “further escalation” between Israel and Hezbollah.

”Nuclear powers realized during the Cold War that Mutual Assisted (Assured) Destruction MAD was inevitable so they agreed on arm treaties to limit arms race,” Jumblat said in an English-language post on the X platform, formerly Twitter.

“The 1701 resolution if properly applied on both sides of the borders should stop further escalation and prevent MAD,” Jumblat added.

His remarks come hours after the bloodiest round of cross-border escalation since the eruption of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah on October 8.

At least 10 civilians were killed and several others were wounded in Israeli airstrikes Wednesday across south Lebanon. The airstrikes followed the death of an Israeli soldier and the wounding of seven others in a rocket attack on the Israeli army’s northern headquarters in Safad, some 12 kilometers away from the Lebanese border.

Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for the attack but some of its officials have vowed a response to the killing of civilians.

Is Jumblat more interested in the future of Hizbollah or Lebanon? At a time all nations are seeking permanent peace, 2-state solutions, without Hamas, Hizbollah, Netanyahu and his racists settlers and ministers; here come Jumblat with a plan to protect Hizb arms and its control of Lebanon, spreading more misery and brutality then ever. What a pitiful individual Jumblat has become; kissing the feet of the occupier for favors, surrounded by Useful Idiots from Berri to Frangieh. A disgrace to Cedar Revolution principles and martyrs. Anyone not calling for complete disarmament of Iran's Foreign Legion (Hizbollah) after border demarcation is worst than a traitor and freedom enemy!

If balance of terror is here to stay, does Lebanon have a chance to escape Iran’s occupation, Hizb reign of terror, misery and hell? How can we explain to our kids why we allowed the rape of our country and its culture & traditions by the Basij/duo? How did we allow Hizb/Assad unpunished assassinations from Hariri to Tueni, Chatah, Slim and counting? Lebanon has lost many won wars from UN resolutions to International tribunal. Time to lock all traitors, political prostitutes and Hizb’S trojan horses. Netanyahu owes his election wins to Hizb & Hamas rockets. With Hamas demise, Israel radicals could only stay in power and prevent 2-nation solution if Hizb keep its rockets. Enough Palestinian suffering and radicalization fermented by Vultures of Tehran. This tragedy must stop. No Better opportunity for permanent peace and insuring dignity and prosperity to Palestinians and the region instead of Iran’s arms & kiss of death to Arab Shia & nations.
