Geagea urges govt. to declare Hezbollah 'outlawed organization'
Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea on Monday warned that “the only thing that can save Lebanon from inevitable collapse” is for the Lebanese government to “declare Hezbollah an outlawed organization,” after the group fired rockets on Israel and the Israeli army began a wave of airstrikes on Lebanon.
“For the record: for twenty years, we left no stone unturned in our efforts to spare Lebanon this critical moment. But, alas … what we have reached today is neither surprising nor strange, given the nature of Hezbollah and its integral role within the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Geagea said in a post on X.
“The only thing that can save Lebanon from inevitable collapse and immense suffering, especially for our people in the South, the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and the rest of Lebanon, is for the Lebanese government to declare Hezbollah an outlawed organization today, with all the legal consequences the move entails,” he added.
Unlike all other parties and organizations operating in Lebanon, Hezbollah never felt the need to officially legally register as a party or organization within the Lebanese system. Ever since it was created by Iran's Revolutionary Guards with the purpose of exporting the Iranian Islamic Revolution, it has been operating in Lebanon illegally. It was used by the Syrian occupation till 2005, then covered by weak, cowardly or colluding Lebanese governments, Michel Aoun and Nabih Berri or by the threats and the actual use of their weapons.
