Two Israeli soldiers wounded in clash with Hezbollah fighter

The Israeli army said Monday that two of its soldiers were lightly wounded in a face-to-face clash with a Hezbollah fighter during search operations in the al-Shakif area of south Lebanon.

“A Hezbollah terrorist inside a building opened fire on the forces” and “the forces immediately returned fire, killing the terrorist,” the Israeli army said.

“During the engagement, two IDF (Israeli army) soldiers sustained minor injuries and were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment. Their families have been notified,” it added.

It said that shortly afterward, the forces fired shells at the fighter's hiding place, killing him. In addition, the Israeli army attacked additional Hezbollah “weapons depots, headquarters, and infrastructure in the area.”

The Israeli army will not allow Hezbollah to “harm the citizens of the State of Israel and its forces, will continue to work to eliminate threats, and will remain committed to the ceasefire agreement,” it added.
