State commissioner to the military court Judge Saqr Saqr charged on Monday three Lebanese and six Syrians with smuggling weapons to Syria through al-Qaa border town.

The National News Agency reported that four out of the six Syrians were detained and one Lebanese remains at large.

According to the news agency, the Lebanese army confiscated two trucks loaded with weapons.

Saqr referred them to the first Military Examining Magistrate.

Syria’s state-run news agency SANA reported over the weekend that Syrian authorities foiled an attempt by an “armed terrorist group” to infiltrate Syria from Lebanon.

The news agency also reported that the Syrian forces confiscated “Dushka machine-gun, automatic rifles, explosives and bombs.”

The United Nations says more than 9,000 people have been killed in the crackdown by President Bashar Assad's forces on the Arab Spring-inspired uprising that began with pro-democracy protests.

The border area is used by smugglers and by Syrians fleeing the violence in their country to Lebanon.

Lebanon and Syria share a 330-kilometer border but have yet to agree on official demarcation.

Wow! So efficient! How come it does not work on the other side? To implement part of 1701 for instance? Lebanon is not a country, it is a piece of GoreTex...

They should be arresting those who smuggled weapons from Syria to Lebanon, for years and years, keeping the fire of civil war ignited ! Those who have smuggled the tons of explosives who blew up the Hariri motorcade when it drove through the St Georges area...Those who smuggled the weapons who served to kill lebanese on the 7th may ! These are the ones who should be arrested and put on trial.
