Judge Saqr Charges Syrian Troops in Killing of al-Jadeed Cameraman

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr charged on Thursday members of the Syrian army for killing al-Jadeed TV cameraman Ali Shaaban in the northern area of Wadi Khaled two months ago.

Saqr also charged the unknown soldiers with the attempted murder of Shaaban’s colleagues, reporter Hussein Khreiss and cameraman Abed Khayyat, after opening fire on them from the Syrian side of the border near Wadi Khaled on April 9.

The three men were hit with a volley of machine gunfire that al-Jadeed said was intentional.

But Syria blamed a clash between Syrian border guards and “armed terrorist groups” for Shaaban’s killing, saying the crew happened to be in the area where the fighting took place.

Shaaban’s killing sparked widespread condemnation across Lebanon with the March 14 forces calling for the summoning of Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali.

Let's see if the butcher Assad hands them over to Lebanon...my guess is hell no! He's the army.

Missing ulpianus 07 June 2012, 15:31

Why should he go get them? Shouldnt a noble presidenet like Bashar obey the law?

We understood "terrorist are fighting him", ok. But this cameraman died because of military personel conducting their duty in a wrongful way. Why shouldnt he hand them over then?

Missing allouchi 07 June 2012, 17:22

ya mowaten, take a chill pill and tell us why you so you blindly you defend your master Assad??? are you so in love with his ears or long neck or just the way he butchers the Syrian and Lebanese people?

Thumb bigsami 07 June 2012, 17:53

Your constant aggressive posts just shows us all what kind of regressed people HA worshiping followers are. And you ask/wonder why the entire world see's HA and their followers as a big threat to world peace & stability? You should all pack up and head to the same caves that your fearless leader Hassan calls home! Cowards hiding behind your arms (illegitimate arms to say the least).

In Syria they are subject to Syrian law. But in Lebanon we also are subject to Syrian and Iranian law.
The Hezb has influence with Bashar maybe they can mediate and ask him to hand over the soldiers.

Saqr did the right thing, in the name of the relatives of the Lebanese victim. This shows that there is a Lebanese State, that is able to speak the truth and point out injustice, even if it is committed by Syria.
Having said this, I also think that, historically, handing over of the culprits, especially in the case of soldiers who made mistakes during their service, is a rare happening. Syria Government has a legal option to bring justice: processing the culprits. In addition, Damascus could apologise or express regret for the incidents (and repay the family).

Look guys I am not sunni but frankly the sunnis have done a better job in government since Taef than the christians ever did. Lebanon would not be as it is -or at least as it was pre Hizbolla camping in solidere- without the hard work of a good Sunni executive a la Hariri and i have no problem with a moderate sunni prime minister as long as he thinks Lebanese. I do not think Saniora or Hariri are salafists, I think they have been great. What has Aoun and this government of their done so far except bring shame and ruin?

FT you can go back also to Fakhredine but time has changed. In any case your coreligionists-i take it you are not sunni- did such a good job at the time that we ended up having 25 years of civil war and over 5% of the population dead. Now what exactly didn't you like in your country when m14 was in government and do you really think m8 is doing well now? Either you are stupid or you are a fanatic-one not excluding the other.

Thumb normzz 09 June 2012, 17:13

A man is known by how many friends he has and for his good nature, not how many people he kills or hurts.
