French freelance reporter Pierre Torres, who filed copy for several media networks including Agence France Presse, was wounded in Aleppo on Sunday as Syrian troops pushed an assault on rebels, a colleague said.

Torres, 28, was hit by a bullet in the shoulder, according to a Spanish freelance journalist who has seen his injury.

He was evacuated to Turkey for treatment, according to the Spanish journalist, who was unable to elaborate on the circumstances in which Torres was injured.

Torres had been in Syria for the past two weeks and had visited the site of the massacre in the village of Treimsa in central Syria. Much of his reporting was focused in Jabal al-Zawiyeh, in the northwestern province of Idlib.

He reached Aleppo a few days ahead of Saturday's launch by the Syrian army of an offensive to dislodge the rebels from the country's commercial capital.
