Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi noted on Sunday that Pope Benedict XVI visited Lebanon at a time when the Middle East is witnessing “radical changes that are threatening its stability and security.”

He said: “The spiritual Christian spring will pave the way for the desired Arab Spring in the Middle East.”

He made his declaration during Sunday mass at downtown Beirut that was headed by Pope Benedict XVI.

“The 2010 Middle East Synod has entered the region into the heart of the spiritual Christian spring,” he told the pontiff before a crowd of over 350,000.

“Your visit offers Christians in the region a sense of safety at a time instability,” remarked al-Rahi.

“This visit carries a message of peace that world and Middle East long for,” he stressed.

Good one by the Batrak, he nailed it! The true Arab Spring shall not be defined by those filthy bearded cavemen trying to spread a hateful and Nazi doctrine known as Wahabism.

If you go to a church with one door and at the end the crowd want to go out. There will be a huge traffic jam. But if the Church had 2 doors it would be easier for the crowd to get out. It is always better for people to have a choice. Having 2 camps has its benefits as well. Besides we christian in Lebanon and in the Middle East are based on coexisting with our muslim brothers.

I think the one thing we can all agree on, and on which we can base a united and secure future, is that democracy is a very bad idea.

Democracy is a bad idea, but I would love to know why you think so.

I have always believed that democracy is not the best for the Arabs, Lebanese included. Sure democracy on the surface looks good, but let's take a good look at what we Lebanese, we who call ourselves the keepers of democracy in this region, let us see what we've achieved so far. We have a political class that is stinking rich and is totally anesthetized over the situation of the people. They have literally grabbed everything that is mercantile in Lebanon, including the beaches and lands they've stolen from the people. Now that there's talk of Oil, they're setting their sights to steal once again the coffers of this potential income. They've made a law for themselves and a law for the ordinary folks of this country. They break every possible law and no one dares question them, if this is democracy, then so much with it.

Then let's see the Lebanon of today, from the repeated failures of the M14 camp to the repeated failures of the M8, what do we have to boast about? A crumbling infrastructure? No electricity power and the Mafia of the private electrical suppliers have a tight hold on our necks, bad cellular network, a laughable archaic 3G system, a terrible road network, almost no laws on our roads, and even less protection from the state, no unity in the country and even less hope for the future, an army that is weaker than the militias, good heavens, if there exists a cure for this country of ours it cannot come too soon, but democracy it ain't.
